Honeymoon Destination...possibly Hawaii, which Island is best?

Danielle, on March 11, 2020 at 10:13 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 10

I am trying to decide on where to go for Honeymoon. We are thinking Hawaii, but haven't been there. Big Island or Maui? We love to hike and be outdoors and are active people. My fiance is vegan and wants to eat some great fruit. I definitely want to hike to a waterfall. What else are touristy thing that people do when they are there on a honey moon?

I recommend looking on tripadvisor forums for help with this decision. We picked Maui and Kauai for ours.

I did Oahu and Kauai. Loved Oahu because it had nightlife too

Personally, I loved Maui. We rented a small car (NOT a jeep!) and did the Road to Hana with an app as our guide. We did the one where you drive to the seven pools and then turn back around. Felt the luaus were more traditional as well.

Oahu, especially Honolulu and Waikiki, is more commercial/touristy. But if you want to do see the major sights and famous spots, that's the place to be. You have a beter chance of seeing turtles and watching good surfing on the North Shore.
My best friend did the Big Island and had dolphins outside her window daily. Another friend did Kauai, which has a lot of natural beauty and is much more quiet.

I don’t think I want commercial/ touristy stuff. I want to explore on my own.
I was considering renting a car and doing the road to Hana with an app so I can stop along the way to hike and see the beaches.
Then a friend told me there might be more to do at the big island. I don’t think I want to go to Oahu because there are more people and I don’t care about drinking etc. I wanna see a volcano and water fall and dolphins and turtles. I love the beach but I’m not one to lay on the beach all day either because my legs want to go explore 🤣

You're so like me! I would suggest Maui and the Big Island. We ended up being in Hawaii during the volcano erruption, so we had to skip it.

The app we used was Shaka Guide Maui. And there were plenty of waterfalls to stop at along the way. I would caution you to not to spend too much time at the black sand beach. People make the mistake of lounging and then not making it to the top before dark. Start as early in the morning as possible.
For Maui, Mama's Fish House had great seafood. And reserve tickets in advance for the Haleakala sunrise. The 1 am wake up call was so worth it!

I have been to Hawaii twice. First time to Oahu, and second to Maui. Personally, I loved Maui more! It wasn't as touristy (stayed in Kihei). I heard Lahaina can be pretty touristy though.
My friend had a relative that lived there so we borrowed her jeep and did the road to Hana. We hiked almost every waterfall hike, and camped in the rainforest! It was amazing! There was the Iao Valley State Park that we ventured, Molokini snorkeling, Makena Bay kayaking, as well as the Kona Brewery tour! So much fun things to keep you entertained! All around best trip so far! Highly recommend!

My next trip, I am planning to island hop and visit Kauai and the Big Island.

Hi there! Oahu resident here. Just FYI our governor recently announced a mandatory 14-day quarantine for visitors and returning residents to Hawaii, indefinitely. In addition, parks and beaches are closed and restaurants are doing takeout and delivery only. Please keep this in mind when you're making your plans! Smiley heart
