Honeymoon before the wedding?

Kristina, on October 16, 2016 at 6:51 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 37

Would it be weird to have a honeymoon before the wedding? Like we get back and get married either that day or the next?

To me, yes it would be odd.

Trust me - you don't want to be traveling the week before your wedding. Or even the month before.

I personally wouldn't want to do that. In my mind, the purpose of a honeymoon is for newlyweds to get away and celebrate their "honeymoon" phase.

I'm 39 days out and I can't IMAGINE going on a vacation right now. There's way too much shit to do.

It sounds odd, but you can do it. I am not sure if you would want to come back the day of or day before. There is normally a lot that needs to get done the week of the wedding.

The amount that you have to do before your wedding day... I'd be worried about forgetting something, not being there when I needed to, or delayed flights keeping me from getting back on time. Also, the idea is to celebrate your first days as a married couple. Not sure the logic in celebrating that early...

It seems like a lot to have planned right before your wedding. From what I hear, time alone between newlyweds is really special, it might be nice to save it for after the wedding.

I think you could do this if you had an awesome wedding planner. I wouldn't do it otherwise though for the reasons pp have mentioned.

If you want to do it go right ahead, however I was so busy the week before the wedding, up until the night before, with finishing up last minute things. DH actually ran to Home Depot the morning of our wedding to finish our seating chart frame. they're would be no way we could have gone away before the wedding. Also, are you going to just go to work Monday after the wedding? I would find that pretty depressing.

I guess I should have added that we don't a traditional wedding! About a year before we got engaged we started talking about getting married we talked about something very small and something that reflects us and our love. Since we got engaged our families have pressured us to have a big wedding which neither of us want. We thought about if we went on a vacation and came back and said "hey come to our court house wedding because that was honeymoon!" When I picture my wedding all I see is my FH. No one else, no white dress, no dances, no music, just us. Inviting the our parents and siblings (only people who live in our state) out of obligation. I live in state/county where you don't need witnesses. We can get married at the DMV here.

Then why not just elope? That sounds more like something you'd be happy with.

Have you checked into the marriage license and waiting period?

I would prefer to celebrate my new marriage after it happens.

I wouldn't want to travel that close to the wedding... what if you me flight was canceled, and you were set to get married the next day?? That'd be a major nope for me.

A "honeymoon" before the wedding is also known as a vacation.

It sounds like you would be better off spending the money on a nice, long vacation and eloping on the vacation. You'll be just as married, have an *actual* honeymoon, AND have beautiful photos to remember it by.

Why don't you just elope on the vacation you're wanting to take

We wanted to go on a cruise so I don't think getting married on a cruise is realistic and our families most definitely would not approve. I guess I'm just trying to please everyone along with pleasing myself.
