High Heels, Low Heels, or Flats

Brooke, on February 5, 2019 at 11:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 75

Hey everyone. I am starting to get down to the nitty-gritty of planning and kind of spaced on shoes... I am a heels girl. Granted, I am not on my feet all day. I love wearing really high heels while sitting at my desk job with the occasional walkabout. I cannot decide what to buy.

-High heels don't usually bother me, but again, I am not spending hours on end on my feet (but when I do have to walk around in them for an hour or two I am fine). Plus they make me feel more confident. But if... scratch that... WHEN my feet start to hurt I will not be a happy lady.

-Flats will be comfortable and easy. My ceremony will be outside, so walking in grass and dirt will be easier! Plus with my FH being almost the same height as me, I wouldn't be towering over him. But when I wear flats I feel kind of blah.

- A low heel sounds very appealing. I am looking at a pair that are 3.5 inches tall. I think it is the best of both worlds. It would possibly give me the confidence boost I want, but not so extreme that I am crying in pain. The only problem is, I have never worn low heels. Will they give me the oomph that I want? Will they be just as painful as a high heel? I don't know!

What have you worn to your wedding, or what are you planning to wear at your wedding and why? If you wore a high heel, did you want to cut your feet off at the end of the night? If you wore a low heel, did they give you the confidence and elegance that you wanted? If you wore flats, did you feel just as beautiful as you would in a heel? Sorry, these questions are redundant, but I really can't make up my mind.

I'm wearing high heels but wide heel. I love heels and I have no issue wearing them all night. My FH and I would go to Bourbon St. In New Orleans a lot and walk dance everywhere all in high heels so I had a lot of practice anyway these are the shoes I'm going with... they fit my theme and plus I think they are just super cute

I wore Nina wedges. I wanted flats, but these were dressy enough without being murder shoes.

I love high heels also! I want to be comfortable and not have to worry about my feet hurting on the big day, so I am planning on wearing a flat similar to the picture 😉

I love the confidence a heel gives me but I also love my husband being a few inches taller than me. I went with a 1" wedge heel then changes into slippers for the reception. I felt like the height was enough and I certainly felt as beautiful as I would have in a higher heel because of the dress!

If you're getting married outside and worried about grass and dirt but still want a heel, a wedge is a good option.

I too, am a heels girl and am wearing a pair of gorgeous 4” blue stilettos... but also plan on being barefoot for the reception because I know my feet will kill by then! What about two pairs of shoes? You sound like a shoe girl, so it doesn’t sound like finding a second pair of lower heels or maybe wedges, if you can find a fancy pair, would be a pain for you. I do think that having your dream wedding shoes is second to none for part of the day when your whole look will still be ~flawless~ .. and for still photos. Have fun picking!

I wore flats. My husband and I are the same height, and for pictures I really didn't want to be taller than him. We also had a bit of a walk outside in a park to get from our ceremony building to our reception building, and any heel--even a low one--is going to sink into the soft ground.

As for feeling "blah" in flats... if your dress is floor-length, nobody is going to see your shoes anyways and they'll have zero impact on how you look in your dress unless it's very form fitting below the waist. So I don't think you'll feel blah, because all people will see is you and your fabulous dress!

Oh one last thing! If you get your dress hemmed for heels and then your feet hurt (which will take a little longer than if you were in high heels, yes) when you go to take them off and are now barefoot/in flats, you may be tripping on your dress.

    TLDR: flats all the way!

I’m wearing really simple flats! I want to be 100% comfortable so I don’t have one more thing to worry about. Plus my fiancé and I are close to the same height. He’s about 3 inches taller than me and I don’t want to be the exact same height as him in our pictures. That’s weird, I know.

In a dream world, I would be rocking a high heel too, but FH is only a couple inches taller than me and although he doesn't care if I'm taller than him I kind of prefer the look of being = height at most. I am going with a 3.5 in heel for the ceremony and dinner and changing to flats for dancing. I think a 3.5in heel will give the vavoom you are looking for, I know it does for me Smiley smile

These are the 2 I am bouncing between.. the teal ones would be white with Navy lace on the back.

I wore flats. I didn't want to think about my feet during my wedding day. It worked. I never felt them, then I never had to change into anything else.

I’m a heels girl & wear heels regularly! For wedding it’s super important to be comfortable & in a good mood & anything above 3” will NOT be comfortable after couple hours & definitly not for a night of dancing.

Go for 2.5”-3” heels: they will give you that fab feeling you are looking for, while not killing your feet. Well constructed heels of this height are definitly comfortable enough for whole night, especially for someone like you who is used to wearing them. If you go higher than 3”, chose styles with ankle straps or lots of coverage & not a stiletto heel, to keep you more stable & comfortable. Styles I’m attaching are examples of super comfortable 2.5-3” heels (I have them both).

My FH is very tall, but if he was only few inches taller than me, I wouldn’t want to be the same height as him in the photos.
I also prefer to have one pair of sexy, comfortable heels to wear all night rather than wear super high heels & then have to change into flats later on (dress length issues etc).

And let’s talk honestly about health for a second: heels above 3-3.5” (without a platform) are very bad for your back, posture & feet & will definitly lead to deformation, pain, or potential injury long term. You don’t need that & 2.5-3” heels will look just as sexy!

My favorite type of shoes involves 4.5-5 inch heels, every time. I typically stay completely away from anything lower than that, unless it's completely flat, like my Bearpaw boots or ballet flats.

That being said, FI is also similar height to me, and he doesn't like it when I wear the 5-inchers. Since it's his day too, and I want him to feel comfortable, I'm also compromising on heels around 3.5 inches. Now to find some I like....
