Hey dancers, I need help!

Jess, on April 3, 2015 at 11:40 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

The only kind of dancing I know how to do is the middle school plod around in a circle thing and I'd rather not do that during our first dance. Can someone suggest what dance would be the appropriate beat for our first dance? The song is Louis Armstrong's La Vie En Rose. I'm fairly coordinated so I'm sure I could look for YouTube instruction if I knew what dance to look for, but I wouldn't know a waltz from a two step, LOL.

Here's a link to the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IJzYAda1wA

What about the rumba? It's the same basic square pattern as the waltz but it's "slow, quick, quick, slow". I think the tempo would work for La Vie En Rose. FH is not a dancer and I'm not great but we took a couple of lessons years ago and we still remember how to do that one.

^^^ I agree the square pattern for the waltz would be the best. We just learned this dance last week at our dance class. They played your song. Smiley smile Great choice by the way!

This video looked like a pretty good example.

"La Vie en Rose" has a 4/4 time signature, so you need a dance that is also in 4/4 time. The rhumba could certainly work, but foxtrot could be another very nice option (and since it is traditionally danced to "big band" music, I think it would be a really nice fit).

I like Brett Long's YouTube channel for dancing tutorials, if you want to try and learn on your own:
