Hi ladies. I tried dresses on for the first time yesterday. One store I went to offered "designer" gowns at designer prices. I didn't get a good vibe from the start. Hi ladies. I tried dresses on for the first time yesterday. One store I went to offered "designer" gowns at designer prices. I didn't get a good vibe from the start. Said my ideal budget was 900, with 200-300 in alterations - total 1200. I didn't think that was unreasonable, especiall if I bought a sample. "That will be a challenge," I was told. hpmh. I was allowed to select 4 gowns to try on. I fell in love with one - price 1200. When asked if I could buy the sample, they said yes, but only at 100 discount. WHAT!!?? THey said it was a new style and had been in the store only about 2 weeks. Still. Weird. THEN, I asked about designer and dress style. They told me "Unforgettable, Anita." OK, cool. Except, two of us searched for hours and came up with NOTHING under those names. I even clarified it wasn't Unforgettable by Bonny. Nope, she said. SO the store website says my budget is doable, but it's really not. SAYS you can buy samples at a discount, but discount is a joke (continued)

@Jackie C -- That was exactly what I was thinking. THank you!

@Moria L -- I actually liked the dress and it was good quality from what I could tell. Better than David's Bridal. But I still don't know if it was what they said it was, because that doesn't appear to exist anywhere.

I would give up on this bridal shop. Even if you love the dress, I would always be nervous about what might happen to your dress at this store.

You will find a gorgeous dress elsewhere that you love! The dress is gorgeous, but the fact that it is over budget and they are not willing to work with you on that and that you get a bad feeling from the store are red flags to me! Wish I could help you find it elsewhere. They really should be more honest with you about what dress it is. I got mine and the style numbers written down on a card for me when I left shops so that when I went back, they would be able to find them again.

The bridal shop just seems shady. While some of it sounds like "standard" practice, I'd sooner go to a David's Bridal or another respected bridal shop and get a different dress. It's not worth the stress of bad customer service.

It sounded so much like bridal warehouse that is why I asked. We went in asking for a specific dress as their website had it listed. They told us that they had many dresses and too many to know if they had that dress. We left.

If you have time to try another shop, I got mine at Madeline's Daughter in Portsmouth! I gave them my budget and Mackenzie didn't show me anything over it so I wouldn't get my heart broken. They're honest about the process- actually gave me a list of other places to get it altered because what I needed done wasn't worth the flat fee they charge!

I got my dress at Pure Bliss in Newburyport, MA - sample gown for 700. Check them out and see when their next sample sale is. They have a great selection, or go in there and search what they have now.

@Veronique == mind sharing your budget? Mine is ideally 1200, including alterations, and I heard Madeleine's Daughter might be too costly for that.

@JulieF - Do you know if they carry plus sizes? Thanks for the tip, regardless!

I think they do? My dress is several sizes too big for me (sample) so I assume they do.

I agree with the shadiness of it all. I wish you luck in finding a similar dress somewhere else!

It looks a lot like my dress from David's Bridal. Very similar but not exactly.Mine has been discontinued. Here's a dress that is close to the one you like and in your price range.

I would def avoid that place! Sounds sketchy!

You know, it could be a China dress, from a site like dhgate or something. This one is kinda similar maybe: http://www.dhgate.com/2012-exquisite-sweetheart-aline-court-ruffles/p-ff8080813265185901326b32bf6a19dd.html#s1-13-null

@LizF - I just spotted that one recently. I think I'm going to see if I can find it at one of the two DBs within 60 miles or so of me. Thanks!

@TheLuckiest - I wondered that, too. I can say that the quality of the dress I tried on was very good, so I don't doubt whoever made it did a good job. It was better than the quality of dresses I found at DB for sure. But still... can't find it anywhere but that shop.

I'll update you all if I hear anything interesting from the shop. In the meantime, I'm continuing my search at other places. You've all been great, and I'm convinced that if you all can't find it, it's because it's not out there. THanks for your help!

Hi ladies. I just heard back from the shop, and they told me that, unlike what they said before, the Unforgettable line they quoted me IS a division of Bonny Bridal. However, they said, it's Unforgettable GOLD, and it "isn't advertised online." It's sold exclusively at retail sites. Um, OK. Not sure I believe that.

However, I DID find a gown on Bonny Bridal that is very similar to the one I tried on.

Check it out. What do you think? Mine was sleeveless and had more of a wrap detail across the chest, where this one has sleeves/straps and is not wrapped across the chest. But otherwise, it's close.

I think I'm going to call another store that is actually listed on the Bonny site as an authorized dealer (the original store IS listed, too) and ask them to confirm if Bonny has a "Gold" line.

I wouldn't buy from them if they're being that sketchy. I've been to a place that didn't allow pictures, but there were tags in the dresses! Also, I wasn't picky about designer, but I still wouldn't shop anywhere with those policies.

The dress is lovely, and if you can find it somewhere else, you should definitely shop around.

I have never heard of the designer of my dress. It just says "signature" on the tag. Googled it...nothing, so I know the frustration of that. I found it at a random shop I went to on a whim. Bought it off the rack, and I love it and therefore do not care at all where it came from. Plus it was $600 and I was planning on paying $1000 and its in perfect condition. Sometimes these things just happen. I realize that most people do not find their dress this way.
