Hi ladies. I tried dresses on for the first time yesterday. One store I went to offered "designer" gowns at designer prices. I didn't get a good vibe from the start. Hi ladies. I tried dresses on for the first time yesterday. One store I went to offered "designer" gowns at designer prices. I didn't get a good vibe from the start. Said my ideal budget was 900, with 200-300 in alterations - total 1200. I didn't think that was unreasonable, especiall if I bought a sample. "That will be a challenge," I was told. hpmh. I was allowed to select 4 gowns to try on. I fell in love with one - price 1200. When asked if I could buy the sample, they said yes, but only at 100 discount. WHAT!!?? THey said it was a new style and had been in the store only about 2 weeks. Still. Weird. THEN, I asked about designer and dress style. They told me "Unforgettable, Anita." OK, cool. Except, two of us searched for hours and came up with NOTHING under those names. I even clarified it wasn't Unforgettable by Bonny. Nope, she said. SO the store website says my budget is doable, but it's really not. SAYS you can buy samples at a discount, but discount is a joke (continued)

Don't rush the dress. Remember, they want you and your money! Don't be bullied. We did and got a Alfredo Angelo for $600!

@Breezie -- Thanks so much for looking AND for your enthusiasm. :-) It's close, but it's not THE dress. It's hard to see in the pics I posted, but my dress has a tulle underlay that I don't see in this dress. And it's taffeta. THe dress you linked to IS gorgeous, though! THanks again!!!

Desiree, I tried on and loved that same dress at Marry and Tux! Ironically I have been searching to no avail to find the designer as well. I have literally googled every type of description I could, and the closest I have come was today when I found your post and picture. I actually had to do a double take when I saw the picture as it looked almost exactly like my "illegal photo!" I had heard great things about the shop and over all had a great experience...until we I told them that I wasn't buying anything that day and was going to have to wait until I was able to shop with my mother....out of state. I was trying to find dresses styles that I liked so it would make shopping with my mother easier. The minute I told them I wasn't buying, my sales woman's whole demeanor changed and we were pretty much shooed out the store. I know that she works on commission, but it wasn't like I said I wasn't coming back, I just told her I wasn't buying today.

Hi Rebecca. How disappointing! I am not surprised. Mind posting your pic???? And I'm interested to hear what name of designer/ dress style they gave you. This is ridiculous. I can imagine why they lie, as they don't want brides shopping there and buying elsewhere, but honestly, I'd be more inclined to buy from a store I can trust. Worst case scenario for them, they offer to match lowest advertised price on a dress and stand by it. But this?!!?? We're not stupid and we know when we're being treated dishonestly. This makes me so mad! Did you see what I wrote about their offer of a "discount" if I wanted to buy the sample? 100 bucks off. That's IT! Usually samples are 25-50 percent off or more. She said it was b/c the dress was so new to the store. Yeah, right. I bet she told you the same thing. She also told me it'd be a "real challenge" to find a dress on my budget of 1200 including alterations, even though they advertise dresses between 750=2200 on their website. What!!??

They actually tried to scare me into thinking that this dress was going to be discontinued if I didn't buy it that day. She never told me it was a new style. I feel like they should have been trying to be as nice to me as possible to try to get me to come back. They can't expect every bride to buy on their first trip into the salon. As it stands now, I am going to go shopping with my mom in FL in a few weeks, if I don't find something I like better then I am going to come back up here and try going to Vows in Watertown, MA. The dress at Marry and Tux will be my last stop if I don't find anything better. I did really like the dress, I'm jut a little disapointed in how are appointment ended...and we actually never even discussed price. Oh, and all she told me was the dress was named Anita, she never even told me a brand. I posted my pics, they aren't that flattering and kind of blurry since my cousin took them illegally! LOL!

HAHA! My photos were the same b/c we had to actually TRICK her to get her to leave us alone for a minute. We asked for a veil, and she wouldn't even bring that on the first request, saying they usually "wait until you've committed to a dress." Uh, why? I wouldn't commit to a dress w/out seeing it with a veil. Eventually, she went and got the veil, but really? At least she gave you the same dress name. I agree. They are going about business in all the wrong ways. I feel the same way -- I won't order that dress from Marry & Tux unless I HAVE to (and I probably won't have to). However, if they had treated me with a little respect for my intelligence and sensitivity to my desire as a bride to know ALL my options for a dress, I likely would go back. Too bad you didn't get to discussing price (though I totally understand why -- you didn't plan to buy that day. Makes perfect sense.) I would have LOVED to have seen if they gave you the same numbers they gave me.

I'm shocked that they gave you the "might be discontinued" rigamarole and told me it was so new they couldn't discount it more than $100 if I bought the sample. BS. I realize styles go in and out twice a year usually, but even that isn't a guarantee it won't be around. Don't sales managers realize we've all heard the same stories/excuses/fake encouragement and warnings? I swear -- the next time I go to a store, I'm going to start with my own warning: "I know all your tricks. The SECOND you turn on the crap, I'll know it and it makes you look slimy. Don't try to 'sell' me or you're not going to get a sale. Even if I WANT the dress. KThanxBai."

My parents own a small business and I understand how the internet has completely changed the game in terms of shopping around for a better price and it makes you want to be protective of your sales. That being said, the best way to overcome that is with honesty (being up front about costs, brands ect..) and providing good customer service that a customer is not going to get online. Knowing that you can go back to a store and get answers and be waited on rather then just reaching dead ends. Unfortunately I'm not sure that Marry and Tux completely gets that. Over all my expereince wasn't horrible, but they just didn't go above and beyond the way they should have in this industry. Good luck with your future dress shopping, hopefully your exeriences will get better from here on out. Keep us posted on your dress choices, obviously we have similiar taste!
