Help with Sola Flowers! Did you prefer to buy a premade bouquet from Etsy or do it yourself?

Amanda , on June 22, 2018 at 3:06 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 5

Hi,

I decided I want to have my bouquets and floral arrangements out of sola flowers because they are beautiful and I can keep them forever after my wedding. Also they are much cheaper than real flowers. How many of you used sola flowers in your wedding and if you used sola flowers, did you buy a premade bouquet from Etsy or did you buy the flowers individually and make the arrangements yourself? If you are looking to buy sola flowers, which one would you prefer to do for your wedding? Thanks for your help!

Amanda

I've got sola flowers for mine! I bought the premade bouquets because they were so pretty already put together and I knew I couldn't get it like that lol I'd end up throwing in the towel from getting frustrated

I purchased the individual flowers and made my own bouquets. I love the way they turned out but, it was HARD work. I made 4 bouquets (mine, my MOH, and two small ones for our moms) and it took me a total of 30+ hours so realize it take a lot of time and dedication to get it looking exactly like you want. I still need to make bouts for the men, and I'm debating either making a floral garland for the sweetheart table or floral wreaths for the back of our chairs. It will depend on how much time I have once I finish up a few other projects.

The flowers are easy to work with (though some do arrive crushed/broken so order extra) and are much cheaper than real florals. If you do decide to go completely DIY I'd wait until there is a sale. I caught a 50% off sale which was great (especially because International shipping prices really added up).

So would you say it was worth making them yourself than buying it premade? Trying to weigh the differences out, pros and cons. If you had chance to change your mind after knowing how long it takes, would you have bought premade ones?

For me, personally, no I wouldn't buy premade. I love that they are handcrafted, I had the time and will to craft them (I did a couple hours every night watching TV) and the monetary savings was worth the effort to me. I was originally quoted $475 for premade but, for $300 I got enough flowers to make everything quoted plus enough extra flowers to make a floral monogram and either 2 floral wreaths or a flower garland.

That doesn't mean premade isn't the right decision for others though. If you aren't crafty, have little patience or don't have the time then doing homemade won't be for you. It is just important to go into it knowing the amount of work and time commitment it will be. Do you have a lot of time but a small budget or are you lacking time but, have a more flexible budget? This will likely determine which of these options is better for you.
