Help! What do I wear to my dress fitting?

Rachel , on March 10, 2013 at 3:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

I have my first dress fitting next week. I was told to wear my garments that I would be wearing on my wedding day. I know that at the first bridal place I tried on dresses, they gave me some bra that laced up and covered my stomach

The place where I purchased my dress, they didn't give me any undergarments. The dress I bought I had no bra or anything else (like a corset or something to suck me in) on when I tried on the dress. I was just in my panties! Is this common? Does this mean I shouldn't bring anything "special" with me to wear underneath?

This is a great article about what to wear under your dress. You should probably purchase at least a good bra before your fitting. It's amazing how much better a dress will look with the right support. Some bridal places give you garments to wear when you try dresses on because they help the dress look better, which in turn helps sell the dress.

If you are planning on wearing a corset bra or a longline bra for the day, then you should try to get it before your fitting since the dress may not look the same with just a normal bra. Also, you need whatever type of slip you will be wearing. If you are wearing a poofy slip for the wedding day and you don't wear anything for the fitting, the dress will be short. Finally, make sure that you wear the shoes that you will be wearing on the day so that they can compensate for any height difference.

It doesn't matter what you wore when you tried on the dress. It matters what you plan on wearing for your wedding day. If you plan on wearing any sort of corset/long line bra or spanx on your wedding day, purchase it before your fitting. The point of having a wedding dress altered is so that it will fit you like a glove. If they fit you with nothing on, it will not be the same when you add those wedding garments on your wedding day.

Also if you plan on wearing any sort of slip that will make your dress fuller, you should have that for your fitting. That will affect the length and the amount that needs to be hemmed.

Same goes with shoes. You should hopefully have your shoes that you will be wearing so that they know where they will need to hem. If you don't have your shoes already, wear shoes that will be the same height that you plan on wearing for your wedding.
