Help! Overabundance of Wooden Roses

S3, on June 18, 2011 at 7:20 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 26

Hi Ladies - I desperately need your input. Last week, someone posted a link to accents and petals from Etsy, and I LOVED the wooden roses. I planned to order 160 (or whatever the small number was), but then they were sold. I e-mailed my mom (who thought the roses were a great idea) and told her that they were sold, but I would contact the woman and ask for a custom order. In the meantime, my mom sent me a different e-mail in which she wondered if she should just order the 850 roses that were still available. I didn't get back to her in time, and she ordered them. Holy. Crap. So now we are going to have 850 wooden roses and I wasn't entirely sure I was going to order them to begin with. I would never in a zillion years tell her that because she was really trying to help me out. I have NO CLUE what to do with these flowers. We don't expect to use all 850, but if any of you creative, DIY gals have ideas for centerpieces, ceremony chair decorations, etc. I would be eternally grateful!

I believe it's just the bud. I forgot to add that in the OP. I love my mom but sometimes she jumps the gun, lol.

You could always glue some sort of stem to them and make boquets and bouts out of them

Look thru accents and petal store.. she makes lots of things with them... Gift bags, hair facinators , bouquets and stuff and because they are wooden I think they would float if you want to use them in centerpieces..

Mark's idea to sell them is a good one.. recoup some of your cost...

They are an adorable idea! You could also get crafty and maybe paint the ridges of them to match your color scheme, so you could place them in more spaces with out them looking like an overload!

Favors maybe? You could cut out leaf shapes that read "Thank you for being a part of our special day! -Bride & Groom" and double them up as place cards by putting their name and table number on the otherside and just glue it to the bottom of the flower

You could also glue some to the bottom of a pillar candle so it looks like a candle holder, that might look pretty.. Smiley smile

@Victoria C: I am hoping they float, since the only idea I have is to do floating candles with the roses (or maybe I can glue them to the bottom of the glass and hope they will be ok submerged). Other than that, I've got nothing!

Thank you everyone, I appreciate the input of those who have already answered and I look forward to reading more. WW folks are always so helpful!

Ooh, Jen - I like that idea of gluing them to the bottom of pillar candles. We can't have an open flame so I'd have to incorporate it into a hurricane, but I like it!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, everyone!

Good Luck!! I posted the wooden flower idea. I'm actually ordering 800 of them from one of the companies. But my plan is to place a number of them around my vases on my guest tables, cake table, head table, buffet table...then along with the charity favor i'm going to pass along the wooden flowers as guest. Good Luck. What are your centerpieces? Im excited. THe only problem i'm having is how to make my centerpiece..POP! I'm missing something. Smiley smile MAYBE a mirror is missing, but i don't know.

I couldn't remember who posted the link, Amber - thank you! I think they're pretty but I'm kind of freaking out because we're going to get 850 of them! I don't have centerpieces yet, which is why I posted this thread. My mom thought it would be nice to place some of them around the cake, since we're doing a cupcake tower - we can put them in between the cupcakes. I'm sure with all the wonderful ideas the ladies are giving me, we will be able to make beautiful centerpieces. Once we do, I will definitely post the pics!

Good luck with your decorations. Please post pics when they're done! Maybe I will steal the idea, LOL.

What is your wedding theme? I'll post pics of what my centerpieces are going to be. Its the vases and then the roses are going around them, randomly - think i need to add mirrors to make the whole thing pop. I don't have my roses yet so have to post sep pics. Good luck girl!!! PS!! We are also thinking about having a cupcake tower. Whichever comes out to be cheaper. I'm open to having a 2-3 tier cake or cupcakes. Smiley smile and if i have a 2-3 tier add a sheet cake to it. lol....gotta look at the budget options u know.

You could maybe wedge (not quite the right word- but you get the idea?)peoples escort/seating cards between the peddles and use them as stands for place cards.... if you used it for both table # cards and seat cards that could use up quite a few.

I didn't read all the responses, but I ordered the wooden roses from the same vendor to put on top of my favor boxes. Mine are black and my boxes are fuchia with a Monogram sticker on the front of them.

850 may sound like a lot but there are tons of ways you can use them, don't sell them until AFTER your wedding!!!!!

You could use them on Napkin rings, placecards (why can't I think of the actual names of some of this stuff right now!?) You can, in a weird way make hair pieces. Maybe for aisle deco, you can put a candle in a mason jar and then glue these to the side? Just ideas...

There are so many options! you can use them for the escort cards like someone posted... use them in centerpieces. I don't know how you are doing your cake, but I'm going to be ordering some wood roses and I'm using them to decorate my cupcake tower. Kind of in between cupcakes. I think your possiblities are endless. But I agree with Dianne D.-- don't sell them til AFTER your wedding unless you are absolutely sure you have used all you are going to use!

Hey so I was totally thinking about this last night because I couldn't sleep lol

Anyway.. you know how people hang their initials from ribbon on the head table? I was thinking you could cover the initials with the flowers and hange them there! Usully people do it with real flowers and it looks gorgeous, I think it would look just beautiful with these flowers!
