Help- Need food ideas!

Lindsay, on April 12, 2020 at 6:18 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 28
Hey all! My fiancé and I are getting married on Sept 18, 2020. What meal did you (or will you) serve to your guests at your reception? We keep hearing BBQ, but we aren’t big BBQ people.
Best wishes!

It really depends on the caterers or restaurants in your area!

People often mention BBQ because it's one of the most cost-effective options, but there's also Mexican food and Italian food that are incredibly inexpensive options. It all depends on your preferences slash what you're usually into eating. Do you have a favorite restaurant in the area you could check out catering options for?

We considered doing a fajita bar because it is our favorite Friday night meal! I’m glad you mentioned that Mexican is usually cost effective. We are on a tight budget. Thank you.

If you are on a tight budget then Mexican is the way to go! Smiley smile Were interracial Chinese/American so we have to do a full family style Chinese meal with 10 dishes in total. Also if you are looking buffet style Americanized Chinese is always cheap! Smiley smile

We love a good hibachi meal! We are also huge sushi people. Was a Chinese meal nice to your budget? 😄

Honestly, Italian is the easiest, cheapest option my FH and I could find. We also love it. We are feeding 150 people salad, breadsticks, and 4 different types of pastas for $1,000. It will be buffet style. We are in Arizona, so Mexican food is huge here. We thought we wanted something a little more formal than tacos, but I’ve seen people do it before too.

Totally understandable. There are many more affordable options than people think as far as wedding catering is concerned. Good luck! Smiley smile

We are doing sandwich fixings with fruits and veggies trays. We also have vegans coming and I figure this is the easiest way to please everyone. Plus healthy!! For 20 people thatll cost us about 100 plus like 30 for cake

I'm doing a buffet style meal with choice of beef tenderloin, chicken or vegetarian pasta, along with side salad, green beans, and roasted potatoes. There will be rolls, too. I'm a widow, so this is for my 2nd wedding.

For my 1st wedding, I was fresh out of college and dirt poor. My ceremony was at the side building of my aunt's church. I made all the food for our 97 guests...chicken grilled on a giant george foreman with a sauce made from cream of onion and cream of chicken soup, garlic redskin potatoes, corn, salad, and bread. I also made my wedding cake...13 oreo cheesecakes - the no-bake cheating way 😂😂😂

What do you like to eat? Local restaurants will usually cater and can be more cost-effective than "wedding" caterers. Unless you have something polarizing like super-fancy food, most guests will be happy with whatever you choose to serve.

90% of the time when we go out to eat it’s Mexican food. We always go to the same restaurant and order the same thing (steak fajitas). We are also HUGE sushi and hibachi fans; it’s usually a treat though because it is expensive. We live in TN, so everyone is telling us BBQ is the way to go and we don’t like BBQ that much to serve it at our wedding

We’ll be doing a Mac n Cheese bar with toppings for the cocktail hour, and for dinner we’re doing a Caesar salad, roast chicken with BBQ on the side, a baked potato bar with toppings, roasted green beans, and rolls. Smiley smile we’re getting married November 8.

It sounds like you've already made your choice. Not everyone likes sushi but most do enjoy Mexican. If bbq isn't your thing, don't feel obligated to serve it because someone else loves it. Your reception should reflect who you are as a couple.

We're having a buffet of roast beef or marinated chicken breast. A pasta bar with 2 sauces, white or red, and 3 different pasta styles. sides are green beans or corn. Desserts are both of our favorites: cheesecake or brownies. A friend of ours is a chef and doing the catering. We've been blessed.
