Help! i need opinions on my desert table!!!

Alyssa, on October 5, 2019 at 3:46 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

My venue is all inclusive to they gave me a $500 budget to work with the contracted bakery. My questions is .......

Do I order more pies or more handheld items (brownies, cupcakes, canolis, etc)????

My guest list will be between 130-140ish.

So far I have 8 9inch pies... Coconut cream, chocolate cream, lemon meringue, and pumpkin (2 of each).

I then have 30 brownie cookies, 2 dozen eclairs, 2 dozen mini canolies, 40 cheesecake brownies. I was going to add some cupcakes (red velvet and maybe boston creme) but they are $45 /dozen. And I can only fit one dozen comfortably into the budget they have set.

Should I cut down on the pies and add more handhelds? Or just leave it alone.... I need to submit my order today so that the bakery can start reviewing it...

I think your dessert table is good as is! Sounds wonderful, by the way!

My concern with "small, handheld desserts" is that many guests might want to take more than one piece/option. I did a quick calculation, and without cupcakes, you have about 182 servings, for 130-140 guests. We attended a wedding that had "small dessert options," and there were people who walked away from the display with their plates piled high with options, and by the time we went up there was NOTHING left.... (It was a weird wedding, so maybe those guests were super weird/rude?) I think if everyone gets a piece of cake, pie, or a cupcake, guests are more likely to stick with a "one to a customer" type approach. But, if you have several "small bite options," I think you need to count on 2-3 pieces per person, at least. If pie is your main choice, I'd have enough pie for everyone (so, 18 pies at 8 slices per pic) and then any additional options as an "add on."

It all sounds good but I think that's a lot of pie and I think it will go to waste like when people have a huge cake. Everyone doesn't eat cake and everyone doesn't eat pie. I think the small bites are better. Now some will get greedy as pp stated and take more than one but everyone isn't going to eat dessert and a few of your guest won't show up even if they rsvp

Try not to go with too many options I heard 3-5 is best. If you give the guest lots of options they are more likely to get one of everything or at least quite a few and then not finishing it.

Haha, any advice I would have given was coming straight from the Jamie Wolfer video!
