Help! I can't decide which dress size to order!!

Kristina, on October 12, 2010 at 12:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I found the best dress this weekend and I'm in love. However I am between sizes and I can't figure out what to do! I have a small-ish waist in comparison to my large chest size. The sample size 10 zipped 3/4 of the way, with about 3.5 inches that wouldn't close.

I recognize and completely agree that I need to order the size that fits my largest measurement - in this case my chest. My bust measures 41, my choices are:

size 12 = bust 40

size 14 = bust 42

I want to lose about 15 lbs, but I have no idea if that will equate to 1 inch in my bust. Because the sample size 10 fits generously in my waist already, it's difficult to order two sizes up to fit my bust, knowing I will have to take in 5 inches in my waist....but I also don't want to end up with a gown that won't zip!!! Smiley sad

I'm really stressing out! I would love to hear from anyone who has taken in their gowns - how many inches can you realistically take a gown in? Will I be okay taking in 5 inches in my waist?

Help!

My understanding from the alterations places I work with is that it is easier to take in than let out. You are supposed to order according to the largest of your body measurements.

    Size up.

You can take a dress in several sizes without losing its basic shape; letting a dress out is much more difficult. Also, while you may intend to lose weight, it's a bad idea to buy a dress based on the assumption that everything will go as planned--even if you do lose all the weight you plan, you may be surprised at how your body ends up distributed.

Definitely a size up. I've heard the same as the pp, much easier to take the dress in than let it out. I had the best intentions to lose weight for the wedding but it didn't happen, so I'm glad I went the larger size. I could have squeezed into the smaller size but then I would have had back fat smooshing out. Not attractive.

    Go one size up.

I had boughten mine in the same as the sample size...The sample size had been stretched and MY dress won't zip....I had intended on losing some more weight (seriously until today...) and maybe having a corset back put in to help with it.I just found out I'm pregnant,so a corset back will be my only hope.

MUCH easier to take in than let out. Go with your bust size - nipping in the waist is an easy alteration as opposed to trying to let out the bust area.

Def I size up. I have the same issue, except in my rear-end. I have to order a size 20 and have the bust and waist taken in to a size 12. : (

Size up !!! You can have it taken in and you wont have to stress about losing the weight to fit in your dress

Go with the bigger size because you can always have it altered in, but I hear it's harder to have dresses taken out. And that way you don't have to stress so much about fitting into the dress

I have also been told to go with the larger of the sizes because it is much easier to take in then to let out. From what I understand the seamstress can only let out 2 sizes (I may be wrong on this...this is what the bridal store told my sister last year for her wedding...but we all still ended up in the wrong sizes!) Definitely go for the size 14...they can also take it in for you and that way your sure the dress will fit your bust size.
