Help choosing between two very different venues!

KNoel, on August 29, 2016 at 9:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

Hi there! I need some advice or guidance for choosing a venue. My fiancé and I saw a venue last week and it was perfect (bed and breakfast venue). We really loved it and it was pretty much all-inclusive (includes food, alcohol, cake, room for the night, bridal suite to get ready in, etc.). We would only have to get the officiant, DJ and photographer. Yesterday, we saw another venue which is very different than the first (barn venue), but we still loved it and are highly considering it. However, at this venue we would need to get our own caterer, alcohol, linens, etc. We would also have to rent a shuttle and they don’t have a bridal suite. Logistically, it just seems like it might be more stressful, but the owner of the property would act as our day of coordinator and would help with set up, tear down, etc. The all-inclusive venue is about 10% more expensive but my fiancé and I think it might be worth it for the all-inclusive to not deal with the logistics. Any thoughts or advice?

I think it would be worth doing the all inclusive. Plus getting your own linens, alcohol, etc could end up being more than you originally thought.

Definitely more peace of mind with the all inclusive venue. Totally worth it.

Having just been married at a DIY venue, do the inclusive one. I loved my wedding but it was so much work.

All inclusive. For 10% more it's worth the piece of mind, besides all the extra costs the barn venue would likely end up being more or equally as expensive with more hassle.

To me, it sounds like you are leaning more towards the BnB for various reasons. It sounds like a better option to me, and if it's only 10% more, then that's a steal compared to the other one where you have to bring in everything else.

The less you have to worry about, the better. If you love the B&B - do it!

I'd be willing to spend 10% more for the all-inclusive venue. I would value my peace of mind, over that 10%. As long as it is within your budget I wouldn't bother with the stress of the other one.

I'd go with the all-inclusive. Once you start down the road of all the other vendors and rentals you'd need, that 10% difference could easily vanish, and then you're left with the same price and so much more work/stress.

Agree with PPs. Do the all inclusive. So much less time, work, and stress. Although it is more expensive, by the time you get everything you need for the barn, I would assume it will end up being about the same price

The owner of the barn venue will "help" with the set up/break down? That would be enough for me to go with the other venue. I hate the idea of brides, their families, or their friends setting up a space, but thinking of them hanging around after the wedding to break it all down is heartbreaking.

Beyond that, the B&B literally erases all kinds of stresses that the barn venue will bring with it.

    I vote for the B&B.

We were in a similar situation when we were looking and ending up going with the all inclusive venue just to avoid some of the stress and hassle, also it was easier for us to pay them for everything and not a bunch of different places.

If you love the all-inclusive venue, go with that one. I'm having to worry about every single detail of my wedding, and while it'll probably be really nice in the end, it's a ton of work, and I kinda wish I would have chosen something easier.

All of the outside things that you would need to bring in for the barn venue will most likely be far more than the cost of the extra 10%, not even including the added stress. This is coming from someone who has a semi diy barn venue, I wish I went with something more inclusive.

Think about how busy you guys are with your jobs and daily lives.. I know with FH in school and working part-time, plus me working 2 jobs we would lose our damn minds trying to do a lot of DIY or put together all the details.. so all-inclusive was much better for us. If you have time and you enjoy that kind of thing, go for it. Either way will be beautiful

I'd go with inclusive but did you check with local hotels about shuttles? Some do and some don't but that will save you a lot of money.

@Melissa I did check about shuttles from local hotels and they don't offer any. The nearest hotel is approx. 20 minutes away from the barn venue.

We did a budget for the barn venue and included the items that did not come with it like shuttle, linens, cake, etc. and after all that totaled it is 10% cheaper. We did estimate a lot of things like the shuttle and linens but we checked with our friends recently who got married to see if we were in the appropriate price range for those items.
