We are having a Mexico themed wedding. Our venue is outdoors near the marina. Between the ceremony and reception we are having a cocktail hour with taquitos, chips &salsa, and fruit. For the reception we were thinking of having a buffet with rice, beans, chicken mole and we really want a taco man there making 3 types of tacos. Honest opinions, how does that sound? And YES, my FH and I are Mexican.

**Note: I've added some photo I found online to give an idea of the theme I am going for.

I think it's totally fine to serve tacos and sounds fun and delicious! I agree with what users are saying though that you probably shouldn't refer to your theme as "Mexican" if you are not of that heritage as a culture isn't a theme.

They could do taquitos with portobello mushroom strips or grilled veggies for those that dont eat meat. If you a lot of guests, have a couple of taco dudes!

@Riddell, no, that is not @aCursiveLine said, at all. She's asking the OP to proceed with thoughtfulness (and sensitivity), not about the food choice, but about using a cultural identity as a theme.

I would love to go to a wedding like that!! Tacos are awesome and the bright colors really make it feel like a celebration!

    Can I come?

ETA: I agree with aCursiveLine said as well. I would be careful not to appropriate a culture not your own as a theme for a party. I think having tacos, southwestern design, and bright color decor would be okay, but I would be careful that things which have cultural significance are not used as "decor".

So if you get a lot of declines can I be invited? I'm ok with being on the b-list just this once.

Tacos are one of my favorite foods. I understand what Cursive is saying. even calling it 'fiesta themed' may be less abrasive to some. honestly though, no one should be getting their panties in a bunch over your 'theme'. it's not like you're running around in black face or something!

We did tacos at our wedding, and it was a huge hit.

We had a vegan option: grilled bell peppers, onions, zucchini, with black beans (on the side).

If you have vegan guests, double check the tortillas, because some can be made with lard, which vegans won't eat.

If you aren't Mexican I think the décor is way overboard. SEe if you can get two lines set up for the tacos.

I think the first two pictures with the taco stand and the pretty colorful decor are tasteful and beautiful. I think the third picture is really over the top, and if it's not part of your culture, might be taking it too far. There was a My Fair Wedding that had a southwestern theme gone to far; maybe watch that episode for inspiration? It was on netflix.

I originally thought by "taco man" you meant a dude dressed up in a taco costume and I was like YASSSSS!! DO THIS!!! But now that I see you just mean a dude making tacos I'm like YASSSSSS!! DO THIS!!!

I also agree that the third picture is going overboard. as a side note, in pic #2 the bright colored papers hanging are very specific to Mexican heritage. I couldn't tell you the meaning, but if you aren't Mexican that would be something I'd try to modify.

they're beautiful and I love them, but maybe do a normal bunting without the designs on it. guests won't know the difference unless they're Mexican themselves.

I do agree with the decor being a bit over the top. I would take color inspiration from those pictures, but I would 100% scale it back a bit.

@Rebecca That's awesome then! Definitely celebrate and incorporate your culture Smiley smile You might still want to find that My Fair Wedding episode. It was in the first season I believe. It was really really well done.
