We are having a Mexico themed wedding. Our venue is outdoors near the marina. Between the ceremony and reception we are having a cocktail hour with taquitos, chips &salsa, and fruit. We are having a Mexico themed wedding. Our venue is outdoors near the marina. Between the ceremony and reception we are having a cocktail hour with taquitos, chips &salsa, and fruit. For the reception we were thinking of having a buffet with rice, beans, chicken mole and we really want a taco man there making 3 types of tacos. Honest opinions, how does that sound? And YES, my FH and I are Mexican.

**Note: I've added some photo I found online to give an idea of the theme I am going for.

That sounds delicious! I went to a wedding where their catering was a taco buffet from a local Mexican restaurant. It was so tasty!

Then Party on Wayne! I would just scale back the decorations, its a little much. I think it could be done more tastefully, the pictures look like chi-chis.

I love it, and I do see this a lot at even our way upscale venues.

I'd keep the decor. It's fun.

So happy you are Mexican! Picture #3 is too much, looks like just a party and not a wedding. I do love the paper flowers in pic#2 !!

Maybe your taco man can do more than just the typical tacos de Asada, pollo and alpastor. Maybe some tacos de barbacoa, fajitas and luengua or asadero or cabeza-IMO

I''ve thought about this! One of our favorite places in the area- Taco Mamacita- will come do a taco bar for like, $8.50 a person. Three meats, hard and soft shells, signature sauces, and fixings. I'm sold. Daddio (who's footing the bill) is not.

Um, can I come?! I love the tacos and the décor! But then again, I love bright colors/patterns/etc. But who doesn't love tacos?

I think it's a great idea just make sure it doesn't take too long for guests to be served you don't want long wait times

Yes! We had a fajita buffet and it was a hit. We didn't have any vegetarians there, but they could have had grilled peppers, beans and rice to fill up plus toppings. If you have vegetarians on your guest list who like fish, fish tacos would be a great option!

Also this is a wedding I attended a few years ago in California. It was colorful but not over the top and set a great party mood!

About vegetarian tacos, if you want *really* Mexican options, you can have nopales (cactus flesh), refried beans, rajas con crema (stir fried poblano pepper with cream and corn kernels), romeritos (don't know how to call that vegetable, but it's stewed in mole), zucchini stewed in tomato, etc. If you'd rather have a tex-mex or chicano style menu, then whatever goes into a veggie fajita should do, along with red rice, refried beans, or cheese quesadillas.

And about wedding decor, I'm Mexican too (born and raised), lived there for over 20 years. These pics are how weddings of Mexicans, in Mexico, usually look like. Definitely go with what you guys like best, but I'd like to suggest sticking to just two/three lively colours, try to do tons of flowers if it's within your budget, or paper flowers/paper banners if you want a more affordable option. I suggest using sarapes (the colourful throws in your second pic) only if you guys are from the north, preferably from Coahuila, because it's a cultural element from that region, and hang them where they wouldn't get dirty (i.e. not as table cloths).

We're doing taco bar/homemade tortillas for rehearsal dinner... heh @aCursive... FH is irish and we are mixing in Irish traditions. Funny, we're having Italian food though. Hmm. And aCursive... she said her and FH are Mexican.

Try out GoodFellas Taco Catering. They have veggie options and some really great appetizers options too. They have enough staff for big events. They are a professional upscale Taco vendor. Not your traditional ma and pop working from home. They specialize in weddings.

I fully support having a taquero at your wedding! Just be careful with the decor being too cheesy (or even offensive). You want it to look like a wedding not Cince de Mayo or taco Tuesday.

Consider cultural touches or aspects to details that are relevant to you and your FH like music, flowers, food, clothing etc. so you don't have to go overboard with the decor. Like instead of having a sign that says 'love' on the sweetheart table use one that says 'amor,' feature Mexican desserts on your cake table/dessert bar, have a Mexican inspired favor, etc.
