Have you had the boning removed from your not strapless dress? We're you happy with the results?

Harts&Bows, on June 16, 2017 at 9:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I love my dress but the boning (runs vertical like a corset) hits me all wrong. It is a dress with at least 1 inch on each strap (v neck). I'm thinking about removing it since it's not needed to hold the dress up. Has anyone else had experience doing this? Good or bad, please share.

I would not remove the boning.. it gives the dress more shape ... I feel like if u took it put it would ruin it

.. o removed bones from an actual corset before .. completely trashed

I also don't recommend removing boning. It typically is there because the dress needs it for shape.

I wouldn't remove it. Is the dress otherwise altered and fitting? My boning fit all wrong, you could see it when my dress came in. To the point my mom was reshopping. The seamstress came in, clipped the dress and made it fit and it fell into perfect place. But she also said she could cut them to make them shorter

It isn't in the bodice but runs along the sides/front/back (6 pieces I total) As I have a short torso and fairly wide hips it is causing the fabric to basically dish in my lap (i have put on about 10 lbs since having the dress fitted - long story). The dress is fitted to about 3/4 of the way down my hip then flares (A line)

Kristin- Not to sound like a creeper but the background in your avatar looked super familiar so I checked out your profile and it looks like you are either from or getting married in my hometown. Take your dress to the Fitting Image and Kitty will help you out!!! She is amazing.

Possible. I live in the same county as the wedding. Smiley smile thank you for the recommendation. I have been freaking out about this since I tried my dress on again for the first time in months a week and a half ago (i noticed it when I got it a bit but my weight gain had made it more pronounced). I'll reach out to her.

@Kristin F. Thank you SO much for the recommendation!!! I called Kitty and have an appointment with her next week. She seemed great over the phone and was completely understanding about my wanting to come in on the earlier side and have her take a look to see if the dress could be altered or not. Fingers crossed she says we can fix the dress I have. Smiley smile

@Kristin- Of course! She's saved me several times. DB wanted to charge me $150 for a $100 bridesmaids dress and Kitty did it for $30! She did my friends wedding dress for a fair price. The nail place next door is really nice too Smiley smile

My seamstress removed the boning from the boob area on my dress. I don't have much in the boob area anyway, so with the boning it looked like something out of a Madonna video. she took it out & it lays so much better. With the proper bra and a little dress tape, I'll be set.

Hey! I am a little late here, but I just got my dress and I am having a similar issue. Did your seamstress completely remove the boning or just partially? My dress has straps.
