Have you ever had mulled wine? UPDATE.....

Rennyrenrennerson, on September 30, 2016 at 10:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

So my fiancé and I love love love Mulled spices wine. If you've never had it, it is simply a sweet red wine heated in a crock pot with mulling spices. Very yummy in the cooler weather months.

We are hosting open wine and beer and thought about adding a signature cocktail but no cocktails seem to be sparking our interest. FH suggested serving the mulled wine along with regular wine and beer. Do you think that is wine overload? It does have a different flavor but looking for opinions on this idea please. TIA

ETA: What are some good name suggestions for this drink, instead of just calling it Mulled wine?

Oh I love this idea! We're doing mead instead of a signature cocktail.

My fiancé and I both love mulled wine. I feel like it's different enough from traditional wine to not be a wine overload

This makes me feel better! I love it and I would love to serve it. Especially because it's predicted to be a low of 44 the night of our reception. Mmmmm

I've heard of it but I've never had it. I don't think it's wine overload. It sounds so good for a fall wedding!

I love it but check with your bar tender/ venue to make sure they can serve hot drinks. I wanted to serve hot toddy but my venue bar couldn't accommodate that.

@O&l, was is because they didn't have the equipment? I'm just thinking, if that is the case, would I be able to supply the crock pot?

You can never have too much wine! I've always wanted to try mulled wine but haven't found a good recipe for it.

Renny, yes. They need hot water for hot toddy but the bar back area was too small so they didn't want to deal with hot water pot.

It was a good thing because my wedding day turned out to be the hottest day of the year!

I guess it was not meant to be.

@O&L, ahhhh makes sense! Yes this would not go over well in out 95 degree summers here. But I have a large crock pot so hopefully that will help if my venue does not have the means for heating it. Thank you

@kaitlyn we have a local winery shop that has mulling spices bags you just drop in the crock pot with the wine. It's delish. If you have one nearby, you should check it out.
