Have you been to a wedding that was inconsiderate to guest?

Ladies, I would like to hear some of your experiences. I was a BM in a wedding a few years ago where the bride had us wear long navy blue dresses for her outdoor summer wedding (it was 104 degrees that day). I was a BM in a wedding a few years ago where the bride had us wear long navy blue dresses for her outdoor summer wedding (it was 104 degrees that day). She has 150ish people with one taco guy and porter pottys. I understand money can be tight (believe me I understand) but she invited people she hadn't spoke to.in years. Maybe she could have cut the guest list to more things more comfortable. Anyways, I want to make sure people are comfortable at my wedding. So, let's hear your stories, even if its something you thing is obviously inconsiderate

Two of my cousins both had memorable weddings that didn't have the guests in mind.

First one- too many people for the space and they didn't serve dinner. They had crackers, cheese and grapes. They ran out of it really quickly and there was no mention of there not being a dinner. My parents and I left to go out to dinner because we were starving!

Second- no seating chart and it was a total cluster F. Their tables were long tables (picture a high school cafeteria) and a lot of people just came in and sat down creating odd space. They did have a reserved table for grandparents but put it next to the DJ. They had a buffet (which I don't mind at all) but the food was cold and rubbery.

Wow I cannot believe all of these horror stories! I have not experienced anything like that! the three important things I picked up as a wedding guest that I'm applying to my wedding are (1) open bar (2) good music (3) shuttle back to hotel after for out of town guests. this shuttle is proving a nightmare in the planning of my wedding because it's expensive and totally out of budget, but over half of my guests are from out of state.

You guys are nice. If I'm forced to leave a wedding for any reason, my butt is NOT coming back.

After reading the other stories, mine hardly seems that bad!!

Went to a wedding with a buffet and halfway through calling up tables, they announced that the best man and MOH would be giving speeches and the couple would cut the cake. So they stopped calling up tables for food - but only half the room had been served! So some people were eating while others (like me!) had to wait. The catering staff even came out and stood in front of the food, it looked like they were guarding it!

Thankfully, the cake cutting and speeches were over in less than fifteen minutes, but still! I whispered to FH, "We will be doing our speeches AFTER everyone has been served!"

Yes, and it sucked. And the food made me sick.

I didn't go but was asked to be MOH for a wedding and then the bride told me that she was going to pick the most hideous dresses for the bridal party because she didn't want me to show he up on her big day. I declined the MOH role (it ruined our friendship, and there were multiple reasons on why I declined) but my head still shakes when I think of that statement. I want my girls to feel beautiful and comfortable.

The bride invited everyone, never kept track of who rsvp'd. There was a large gap between ceremony and reception and they were only about 10 minutes away from each other. There was not enough room for the guests to sit. They ran out of food. The bride and groom were so drunk i doubt they even noticed how uncomfortable it was for everyone else.

I went to a cluster f*ck of a wedding last month. It was my FH's cousin's. I've mentioned it on here a few times. Now, I know it was done VERY fast, probably because the bride's brother was very sick (and he did tragically pass a few weeks before the wedding), and I know the bride did everything herself (I'm guessing she never got on a wedding forum), and I also know they were trying to be as laid back as possible so as not to stress anyone out, but it really was bad for the guests. What matters is they got married and the ceremony was great and THEY had a good time at the reception, so that is wonderful. However:

    1) They chose a venue that was hard to get to: a beach house on private land. Everyone had to park in the sand and then be shuttled to the venue by ONE 5 seater golf cart driven by the ushers.

    2) They had 2 ushers, one was my FH, but the other guy did NOTHING. So my FH was gone almost the entire time shuttling people in the Texas summer heat. He looked pretty bad once the ceremony got underway.

    3) None of the BM or GM helped with anything. My FSIL was their officiant and people kept coming to her to direct things. They even came to her at the end of the night when the gift cards were stolen!

    4) After the ceremony, guests had to pick up the chair they were sitting in and go claim a table for themselves. My FH had to grab his mom's and his chair and ran off. He didn't even help me with mine and I had a lot to carry. (He apologized later for A LOT of things, but he had wanted to make sure the family was able to sit together.

    5) They only had one entree and that was fish. I hate fish. On the bright side, their sides were really good and all you can eat so I got more sides.

    6) The tables had no direction for getting food. The other usher was SUPPOSED to direct them, but he decided he would rather get drunk instead.

    7) My FH was super busy after dinner shuttling people back to their cars so we didn't even get one dance in. Their "professional" photographer even got stuck so my FH had to take his BIL and other friend with him to help get the guy unstuck. They ended up helping him the rest of the night.

    8) I say "professional" because he is supposed to be the best our town had to offer and we just got the pictures in and they are TERRIBLE!! Thank God my FH took his camera and was able to get a few professional looking shots of people.

    9) People got drunk and stole the golf cart while my FH was taking pictures of the newlywed couple. This pulled him away and he had to stay by the cart the rest of the time. Finally my FSIL said that's enough and had my FH take her husband to get their car and we all left.

Yes, what matters is the couple had a good time, but it was very stressful for us.

@A&J the worst part was it is her family that has diabetes. You think she would have thought to provide something sugar less even if it couldn't be an elaborate meal. She could have at least had hotdogs and water....lol

FH and I went to an outdoor wedding in June where it was hot as hell and we were sitting directly under the sun with no tent. We had to stand in the heat the whole time waiting for the ceremony to start and through the ceremony. I thought I was going to die!

Melissa, it sounds like your FH was running around doing everything at that wedding!! I hope the bride and groom at least thanked him and gave him a nice gift.

The worst wedding that I have been to started over an hour late. The majority of the guests were in the church at the time stated on the invitation and then we sat and sat and sat and sat until the ceremony finally started. No reason was given for the late start. The ceremony was nice and the reception was fine, but the late start put a damper on the whole day for me.

5 years ago I went to a wedding that had no music, dancing, alcohol, (The ceremony was beautiful but the reception was not). There was nothing to eat except for 4-5 pies for 50 or so people, water, and I think some punch during the lunch hour. My DH was the best man and had to be there early so we were there for a while, most people were starving and bored by the end.

Worst wedding I have ever been to was last summer. The ceremony was fine, but the reception was in an old mill that had no AC. It was hot and humid (it's Virginia in August for heaven's sake) and dinner was outside. There was no reserved seating, so we had to sit with a bunch of strangers, including the groom's mother. There was only beer and wine to drink and they ran out of white wine. The food was awful and there was barely any decor. They also invited a ton of kids who were running around the dance floor, so you couldn't dance. In any event, we left early.

@Emily, his cousin thanked him profusely (I don't think he knew how bad it actually was nor did the bride) and I don't remember what his gift was but he did get one. Also his cousin said if we want to, we can make him work really hard for our wedding (he's a GM), but our wedding is indoors, all at the same venue, and we have three ushers so we said thank you, but we should be okay as long as he shows up ready. I will be having assigned seating and this is exactly why.

I went to a wedding that started 3 hours late and then we had to drag our seats from the front of the room to the back and set our own place at the table...the food was served by the bridesmaids and it was cold and nasty

I was in a wedding maybe 10 years ago. We were tools we were getting tea length dresses. We ended up with long, polyester, lilac colored dresses with giant bows on our butts.

We also went to a wedding with no seating chart. We ended up sitting with the brides grandparents and some other random people that we didn't know. It was entirely uncomfortable.

Two years ago I went to a coworkers wedding. She had the expensive dress, the expensive venue and no food, no linen on the tables. There was an open bar. According to her sister, who was apologizing to everyone, the bride strung the caterer along with dinner plans. Then a week before only wanted to pay for dinner for the bridal party and a few appetizers for guests. She cancelled on the caterer because they weren't willing to stand there and not have enough food. We left, but we heard that a few fights broke out.

Went to a wedding that was at a private residence which was also a pig farm/slaughterhouse, the reception was held down wind from the pigs, on a windy day so needless to say the entire ceremony and reception stunk horribly of poo. They had one 10x20 white tent set up for 150 guests in the middle of August with the 'buffet' taking up a good portion of the shade the tent provided. The porta-potty was literally right next to the tent and the table with the food literally butted up to the side of the porta-potty....I remember the bride walking down the 'aisle' which was just DIRT and getting married if front of her parents outhouse. The groomsmen were all trashed because they drank the keg the night before and since they had consumed the only liquor that was going to be there, the father of the bride took a hat one of the guests had been wearing and passed it around to collect money to go buy beer. The food was just cold cut platters and potato salad that was COVERED in flies. To top it off my siblings and I all found out we had ringworm a few days later! My parents swear it was from that wedding.....I remember all of this and I was seven lol! Years later I found out my parents had originally put $400 in the card and while the reception was going on my father snuck into the car and took $375 OUT.

I also attended a wedding that had no cocktail hour, reception started at five and we didn't eat for two and a half hours. Everyone was extremely hungry and complaining.

Another wedding had a venue that only accommodated 175 guests and their list was at 250, it was very crammed.

I was a BM in not one but two winter weddings where the brides insisted that that they have outside pictures done. The first wedding was early March and about 45 degrees and very windy. We were outside for and hour. The second one was in February and we had a blizzard the night before. It was around 30 degrees with a foot if snow on the ground. Both dresses were strapless and thin. It was horrible,
