Has anyone else gotten any funny RSVP's? RSVP frustrations?

I got a RSVP in the mail today that said two people would be coming and it had their food order but it didn't have their names. There was no return address on the envelope either. I have two days till my rsvp's are due and we still have over a hundred rsvp's out. I am not going to stress about it,...

Mom of the bride writing this one: (PART ONE)

When my husband and I got married (in the mid-80s) we had the RSVP to beat them all. We had sent a courtesy invitation (one you send knowing that it will be turned down) to distant relatives of his (HE had NEVER even met them) in Florida. To Mr and Mrs --, so an invitation for 2. They RSVPd that TEN will attend. Mr and Mr, their six kids (our brothers and sisters or close family and friends weren't even bringing their kids) and the non-relative's mom and dad. You see, they decided to make this their summer vacation. The wanted to load up the RV and go somewhere. THIS gave them a reason to come to Chicago to see the sites.

    (PART TWO)

I told my husband that NO, only 2 could come - so that he should call them and straighten it out. He said he couldn't. "So tell your mom to call - they are HER cousins." SHE said no, she wouldn't because it would embarrass her. Finally the mom called but reported that they HAD to bring all ten because they couldn't leave their children alone in a strange city (hey, what about the grandparents watching the kids?) I said - they could bring only 2, but I would provide a wonderful babysitter for their children.

It ended up NONE of them came. They were insulted by my lack of hospitality..and never spoke to the "family up north" again. Years later, my mother in law said, "It was no loss. We didn't like them anyway." Oh, NOW you say that!!!!!

    Lesson to Future Brides:

Hold your ground. It isn't worth a big fight. It is only a day. But, if people try to rudely take over and take advantage of you, you need to be in control (w/o being a bridezilla). Smiley smile

To the people saying that they put numbers on the back of the invitations:

Oh, I wish we did that. My fiance has a number of people coming with the same last name (a popular last name from his family's country of origin). We just got one back that said (Mr & Mrs _____ and son). Oh that narrows it down to 3 of 15. *rolls eyes*

For the line that you write your name we put M__________ for Mr. or Mrs. and my cousins name is matthew and he used the M and wrote atthew. We got a kick out of that.

Also, we can a couple of options on our rsvp card one for how many turkey dinners one for how many vegan dinners one for how many people will take the bus and one for regretfully decline. So his parents didn't quite understand and put 2 turkey dinners but also checked off regretfully decline. So i asked them why they weren't coming, but still wanted dinner hahahaha. They thought it was funny too.

Not really an rsvp rant as much as a post office rant. I mailed my invites out 6 weeks ago because we have a lot of OOT guests and I JUST got an invite back today that was a wrong address. Really??? I t took you 6 weeks to get it back to me. Ahhhh!

Jeez, Karyn. That's really bad! I got a bounce back from FL within two weeks... and I'm in WA state! About as clear across the country as you can get.

I numbered my RSVP's on the inside of the envelope, and I am so glad I did. A lot of NO names, no count they just circled the accepts line lol. We also put a little note on ours about a song request if they wanted. I should have not put that on some of FH friends cards. One listed 6 songs on the back, that would have my grandmother beating him!! Good laugh for us though!!!

I had the names printed on the RSVP's to eliminate write ins...

In my FIRST batch of RSVP's back yesterday (5 woohoo) someone wrote in a 3rd person and wrote in the entree and circled it...smh...best part is I call FMIL to "deal with it" since FH and I both didn't know the people well, if at all, and she told me she TOLD THEM TO DO IT!! definitely SMH!! I asked that she call me before she does that again.

I have a feeling serious amounts of wine will be needed to deal with this tomfoolery

I numbered my RSVP's as well as wrote on them "We have reserverd___seats in your honor." For our meal choices I made it pretty clear, it said:

    Chicken(Names)_______________

    Beef(Names)__________________

and we have only gotten one RSVP back out of about 75 where the person responded yes and then wrote a 1 for beef and 1 for chicken--AND DIDN'T PUT ANY NAMES!!!

We got one back all the way from Ireland. They wrote on the M______ line "Mr and Mrs. So and So"

That was it! Didn't check "accepts" or "declines". nothing on the meal choice part.

They made the effort to put a EUR stamp on it and send it back, and didn't tell us if they were coming!

I showed my FH and he said "ohhh...well...she's blind!" she's blind? she was able to write their names! kinda funny now, turns out they aren't coming Smiley smile

We had a few people write in an extra guest or two, and some odd RSVP attempts on FB. On the upside, we got a lot of cute little notes squished at the bottom of the cards. Those are the ones going in a scrapbook. Some of the people who knew they couldn't come even tucked cards pr notes in with their RSVP. Gotta say, I'm glad I'm not dealing with that stuff anymore!

I had someone write, using the printed "M"yself and a friend. For the life of me I couldn't figure out who it was (our best guess is it was a co-worker of my husband, whose invite was hand delievered (thus not on our 'master list') who didn't show in the end. I gave the RSVP to my DJ, he explained the problem and then played, "WHo can it be now?"

I got a few funny stories about RSVP's. One I got back that just stated "Kelly 6" the funny thing is that is my FH last name and 80 out of the 140 coming has the last name of Kelly. Another one I got in return was left blank but the #4 will be attending.
