Has Anyone Done the Personalized M&M's?

Carole M (a.k.a "old tart"), on March 9, 2011 at 4:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 34

I was thinking about my sweet table last night. It is a combo of Italian pastries and a candy bar. Naturally, I will only put fall colored candies on the buffet. When I was thinking M&M's, I checked out the personalized website. I loved the brown, orange and glitte gold. Of course, I would put the motorcycle on one of them. But then I saw my FH's fave team...traitor that he is...the Jets. I would love to put out Jets M&M's on the buffet. Has anyone done it? Is the $11.99 worth it?

Thanks in advance!

OMG so expensive!!! They are totally cute, but you can but the bags of all the same color at Michaels for about $5 and get the same effect. The bags of the personalized ones are so small too! If it's in your budget go for it, but it's a lot to me...

My in-laws did this for our rehearsal dinner without us knowing. I can ask her what she paid for them and where she got them, maybe it was cheaper?

    I'm thinking about it if there's extra money. It's $149 for a 5lb bulk bag and $249 or a 10lb bulk bag.

    .

I was thinking of doing something like the pic below but in my wedding colors.

I agree with Analy, I priced them out and I think a little pee came out : / For me, they were way too expensive. I think just getting the right colors would be awesome! I also took into consideration how quickly I would devour these little pieces of art..... lol....

I've purchased them before, years ago and they are definitely pricey. It was for a baby shower I believe. They were worth it for that event because it was one of the "wow" factors at the shower and most people had not seen them before.

For your wedding, I'd probably say, unless you really need a special touch or something "cool" thing, go for it. But since you already have a table with other sweets AND given that this is your wedding I'm sure it is special enough as is...probably best to just spend that money on something more useful.

I had them in the favors at my daughter's first birthday party. I think that they are worth it. Everyone thought they were sooo cute.

I really wanted them for my wedding but alas they were not in budget. They are super cute though and if you know anyone going to vegas you could have them go to the M&M World there and get the colors you want by the pound. Not cheap but would save you shipping if you knew someone going. (oh and they wouldn't be personalized, just the colors you want).

I LOVE Dove chocolate and they actually have a website where you can purchase the signature Dove chocolate squares and have the inside of the foil wrappers custom printed with up to 4 different sayings! So cute but like Holly said, I peed myself when I saw the price!

I went to a baby shower recently where they mixed the personalized ones with regular ones in the same color. So some were written on and some weren't. That way she only had to buy a small amount and you still had the cuteness of it with more to go around (without breaking the bank).

Thanks guys. Yes, there will be a ton of stuff on the sweet table.

@Analy....Does Michael's really sell all the same colors? What section of the store is it in? I swear I live at Michaels. That is so doable! I can reserve the Jets' M&M's for a bday.

(I hope this works, never posted a pic before . . .) Here's the selection at the M&M store in Vegas. :-) The can customize them by mail but yeah it gets pricey. They have pre-set pictures too, we got the LV sign on some and wedding bells on others along with our names. It's quick and easy - less than 5 minutes.

I ordered some a few years ago when my daughter got married - Matt & Mandi, so they had an M&M themed wedding - and they arrived in July in Arizona unmelted because of being packed in dry ice. It is a completely cute idea!

I believe you can also find the Valentine candy hearts to be personalized too, Google that one because I don't have experience with it.

Carole, I used to work at M&M. If you go on their site you can sign up for promotions. I get coupon deals on a regular basis. I bought the personalized M&Ms for my best friend's shower several years ago and they were a huge hit. We're planning to do this as favors for our wedding. Ordering in bulk is the way to go...then hit up Michael's for inexpensive packaging. I got cute favor boxes in plum color and then coral ribbon to tie them with.

I was just on their website and they said for 5lbs it was $50 dollars, but if you think about how much you need though so it'll be expensive, but for me i'm going to use them as favors and it adds just the right amount of aww that i'm looking for. if it's in ur budget use them if not just get the colors, it'll have the same effect candy in the tummy

Hey, we have one of those M&M stores here in Orlando!! I was looking at doing the personalized ones and saw the ridiculous price, but never thought of getting regular ones in my wedding colors from the M&M store!! Oooohh.... one more thing to add to my list of stuff to look into. Thanks!! Smiley winking

Yea you would be better off at the M&M store or a big candy store with the different colors. You will not get your money worth from personalizing it.

Sometimes candy shops will have the m&m's separated. so the bridal store i work for, they also own a candy store & they have about 10-15 different colors.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and input! Since this is not a favor(I am doing the maple candy and the lapel pins for favors), I was going for a candy item for the sweet table. Being anal, I wanted fall colors. The candy items are more garnish than anything, as I will have a grooms cake and a ton of Italian cookies. I would love to go the inexpensive route at Michael's(using the coupon Analy ; ) While nothing compares to a real M & M, I am cheaping out on this one.

@June P.....That store looks so cool. It's as awesome as going to Hershey, PA.

    I honestly have not found an M&M I don't like. : )

I thought about it, for my daughters wedding, and then realized that it was too spendy and most people would never even notice that they were personalized.
