Harry Potter Themed Wedding

Erin, on August 14, 2019 at 2:04 PM Posted in Style and Décor 3 37
My FH has agreed to let me throw a Harry Potter themed wedding Smiley laugh I’m wondering if anyone here might have any ideas or suggestions for pulling that off in a bit of a budget haha.

Dude that sounds so dope ahah. If you wanna do a send off I hear people use wands instead ! And I always see people use really nice Harry Potter quotes. I can also imagine favors to be stuff like maybe jelly beans to mimic Bertie Botts candy.

Definitely the floating candles from the dining hall (there's a how to on Pinterest) chocolate frogs as favors, seat everyone according to their house, have the guys wear house socks and matching ties. The girls could carry wands with a few flowers glued on. I'm super eager to see how this turns out for you

I had the idea to create a signature based around amortentia, we can either make or order inexpensive wands for all the guests (there’s only gonna be about 65 people) and a list of different spells, and each spell corresponds to an action FH and I would have to do, like kiss.

I definitely like the floating candle idea, I’ll have to look up how to do it.

I want to do a honeydukes candy table, and maybe an “owl post” to “send” cards, marriage advice, recipe ideas, date ideas, etc...

Oooo fun that’s what my FH and I are doing! There’s tons of ways to make it pretty with simple nudges as well such as 4 long tables with colored linens to correspond to the houses, the candy table is great there’s some super easy recipes online for how to make desserts if you’re up to it, there’s tons of great quotes about love and the floating candles can make any venue look like the great hall! For our card box, we got a mailbox and I knitted a little hedwig to sit on top! Little details that are fun. My fiancé suggested decorating the bar like Azkaban with a little sign saying “trade your loonies ($1 coin in Canada, play on the word “loony” like someone in Azkaban) for a drink”. So many fun things and different directions to go!! I also LOVE the signature cocktail idea!

I love the Azkaban idea, I was thinking about calling the bar the Three Broomsticks, which is pretty common i think, the Azkaban idea is super unique.

Im planning on making cupcakes instead of getting a cake, and I could fill them with the house colors.

I laughed when he agreed to do it, because I realized I had already chosen Burgundy, Olive, and Sunflower for our color scheme, which is really similar to the house colors minus blue for Ravenclaw, so that doesn’t have to change too much.

I recently saw an invitation that looked like the first page of a chapter in HP - it was gorgeous without screaming Harry Potter

I actually went to a Harry Potter wedding a couple years ago! The bridesmaids wore grey with different color sashes and shoes to match the four groups in the school. The bride and groom did a little wand fight to begin their first dance. It was a lot of fun!

Check out Offbeat Bride. They have SO many HP weddings.

Also, don't forget that Vans just came out with a line of HP stuff. I picked up Ravenclaw shoes for my reception!

Oooh fun! I am a massive HP fan 😊

We are doing a more general book themed wedding, we made our own bookmark Save the Dates using book pages, some of which were HP (though I love the ticket idea too)

    https://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d31/lfoggarty/mobile%20uploads/fa40b860-e6de-49e5-a6f5-fb951a95b35f_zpshr5ogtkr.jpg

We were also think of doing an “Owl Post” guest book.

We are utilising stacks of old books in our centrepieces, you could use HP books (they were so mass produced there must be tonnes available cheap in thrift stores)?

How about utilising music from the Yule Ball in the films for your first dance etc? I think there is one called “Neville’s Waltz” which is quite romantic.

Now the real trick would be to work out how to do those self-filling wine glasses from Bill & Fleur’s wedding 😉

I love HP and love that you’re doing a themed wedding. What songs will you incorporate? I just want to use one song from HP for the recessional. I can’t wait to see all of what you came up with! So excited for you!

I threw a Harry Potter themed birthday party for my daughter last year. To make the wands just get the kabob skewers(wooden), use hot glue to make ridges and lines on them, then paint them different shades of brown. I ordered little glass vials from amazon and made strawberry jello for the amortentia, and I used the golden hazelnut candies for the golden snitch. The invitations looked like the Hogwarts letters also. There are so many ideas out there and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Oh how fun! You could put your cake/desserts on a trolley and have someone ask "anything off the trolley dears?". Or there's this awesome seating chart. It could be a DIY project. I'm so here for this theme. Please keep us posted!

I’m thinking about making bracelets for people to demonstrate their houses, beaded for women, but trying to decide what to do for my male guests (who might not be so keen on a simple beaded bracelet xD)
