Hair dilemma (mostly directed at the african american brides)

Chesty LaRue, on April 29, 2011 at 11:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 61

Here is my problem. I don't really want a stiff up do. I was going to get a weave and then have it styled in a half up half down do, but here is the problem we are going on a cruise the next day and from experience weaves can be very time consuming on vacations where there is swimming. Even with a wet and wavy. Any suggestions on a hair style that will look timeless for the wedding and transition well for vacay. What are you ladies doing to your hair. I'm not really crazy about getting my hair braided but I guess it is an option.

I'm trying to figure that out myself, but I was thinkng of maybe getting it in a bob with one side longer than the other, and getting in curl in loose curls. Yeah they can be trying to think....maybe you could get it styled for the wedding and then maybe after you go swimming maybe wash it and wrap it.

I am getting a weave also but have no idea of how I am wearing my hair either. My stylist said that I need to buy some good hair (which can be costly) so that it wont be hard to maintain during the honeymoon

I have been thinking about this over and over. I want a half up do, back down as well. Thinking really hard about getting the weave. Im pretty sure it will look great but like you I dont know what it would llook like on the honeymoon after swimming and sweating, :0). You can always get the weave and pull it back into a ponytail on the honeymoon.

A wet and wavy wouldn't be too bad. So long as you're not swimming at night, you can allow your hair to air dry. The braids underneath will take longer, but it's really not a big deal. If you do get your hair wet around night time, bring a blow dryer and dry your braids as much as you can, brush (vent brush) or comb it out, then braid your hair into two braids before you lay down. Tell the hubby no pullingSmiley smile.

Regardless of the hair you get, you will need to take the same steps. Even the "Remy Velvet" hair gets extremely tangled if it's not maintained correctly, (had to learn the hard way.) Good luck ladies.

I dont wear weaved hair except braids. My plan was to wear half up, half down for wedding day and beg my braider to do cornrows in a design for honeymoon on Sunday or Monday depending on our depart day....

Would you want to get micros...wear them half up half down for big day and do whatever with the micros for honeymoon (get up and go hair)

I always wear sew ins on vacation and i never have any problems with swimming. Just be sure to get quality hair that will curl back up when you wash it. I love to swim so I like to have my hair protected from all the chlorine plus it would break off if i had to wash it after every swim.

For my wedding im getting a wavy sew in that i wil straighten for the wedding and then wash and go for the honeymoon.

Singing diva I love it. Where did you get the clips? How much were they? I'm going to discuss this with my hair stylist and see what she says. Also I have to find a style that I like. Does anyone have any pictures of inspiration or the style you chose?

We are also leaving on a cruise the next day and I am getting a weave with 100% virgin indian remy wavy hair, one of my BMs had the same hair for her wedding and said it was great during her HM.

I had really expensive hair when I went to Trinidad it was 50 bucks a pack and it got tangled. Then again I was negligent. I'm also trying to keep costs down. A good weave is so expensive about 180 for a full head in my area and then good hair is about 50 and up per pack. SMH

Where are you, that is cheap for where I'm at. Heck a pack of 18inch Remy Velvet cost over $100. I think the clips are an excellent idea. But if you're not good with styling your own hair, I'd give it a test run to see how you do.

I was thinking the same thing. I am glad you posted this. I have been looking for hair styles online and I have came up with nothing. All I know is that I want some up and some down. But I don't know if I am going to want to continue doing it every day for the HM.

    HEY LADIES!!

THE CLIP-IN WEAVE WILL BE GREAT FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU CAN TAKE THEM OUT TO GO SWIMMING AND PUT THEM BACK IN FOR NIGHT LIFE OR WHATEVER. FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY THERE ARE SOME MANY GREAT STYLES YOU CAN DO WITH THAT. ALL UP, ALL DOWN, HALF UP, HALF DOWN THEY LOOK REALLY GOOD WHATEVER YOUR CHOICE IS.

MY WEDDING IS NEXT WEEKEND AND I'M WEARING MY HAIR UP IN THE BACK AND CURLY IN THE FRONT CAUSE I WANT TO SHOW OFF MY DRESS.

GOD BLESS I HOPE THIS HEPLS YOU A LITTLE AND DONT STRESS OVER THE LITTLE THING BECAUSE IT WILL DRIVE YOU CRAZY!!!

I made my own clip ins for the wedding and popped them out before we left for Negril. I pretty much went natural bushy wild while in was there because of the humidity. I suggest making wet and wavy clip ins. I don't like sewn in weaves ( had one and hated how I couldn't scratch my own scalp. Clip ins go in and out of your hair when you want. Good luck.

OMG thank you for making this post I am having the same issue. My hair is well past my shoulders but I think I need a little extra fullness for the style I want. So with these hair clips where can I purchase these and will they work in an updo as well?

I would definately recommend getting the clipn in that is most likely what i will do. I am 100@ natural never had a perm so maintaining my hear on vacation is a TASK!!!!! but the clip in are a good idea and even instant weaves, they are sort of like the clip in and wig in one (hard to explain). Go into your local beauty store and ask them for their recommendations as well.

How long is your hair? Are you able to do it with just your natural hair? I am having my hair down with some curls...

Often your regular stylist can make clip-ins for you. Talk to him or her about it. Also no matter what kind of hair you get you will have to take care of it, especially if you are going swimming/getting it wet in the shower ;-)

Here is my PSA: If you get a weave I would highly recommend going to someone who does weaves regularly not someone who does in it on the side or infrequently. For those of you getting sew in weaves, make sure when she braids your hair you are comfortable with how tight it is when she is braiding it! It takes time to loosen up and can damage your hair and your scalp!

I am not going on my HM immediately after the wedding so while I will be doing an "up do" or a completely straight down long do (FH's latest request), I will be able to come back to my regular before we leave in December!

I'm doing my regular press and curl for the wedding and then just leaving it alone and wearing it curly for the mini-moon.

My hair is bob length a little past my chin. Cute in a dubee/wrap but will not work for the type of style I want
