I'm a bridesmaid for my friend's wedding coming up in November. she has been planning her wedding for a quite some time now and a year ago in September 2025 she texted me saying that hair and makeup was going to cost $295.00 per person. She said it would be $175.00 for makeup and $120.00 for hair which i thought that was a bit much. She asked was i good with that price and i responded "Y.O.L.O, yes" (meaning you only live once, yes)...
just yesterday she text me a reminder to have my money for hair and makeup turned in by the end of this month and that the cost is $380.00 she did not mention the breakdown of what hair and makeup is costing only stated the total. I did not want to stress her out by asking why the price had gone up so much or complain, so i simply responded back asking what was going to be the best way to get the money to her, did she prefer cash or Apple pay etc.
After thinking on it for a day I just feel as though it is such a waste of money to be spending nearly $400 when all i want done is a low messy bun parted down the middle and a natural soft glam makeup look. our money at home is tight and if money wasn't a issue i would just pay it no questions asked.
My friend also said that out of the 7 bridesmaids there is already one girl who is doing her own hair and makeup because she cannot afford the price.
How should i go about telling her that i want to do my own hair and makeup? I want to have my friend who is a hairstylist do my hair at her house the morning of the wedding (she said she would charge me just $20 for my hairstyling that showed her a photo of yesterday) and i do my own makeup together with her and the other bridesmaids while we get ready together. is it just me or is $380.00 seem on the high side of pricing?
I don't want to anger or upset her,
