Guest book

So, I’m not a huge fan of the guest book. What’s the purpose of it? I know who will be there, I invited them. What do you do with it afterward? Store it? What is your opinion/plan for the guestbook? Yay? Or nay?

I felt the same way but knew if I had nothing my guests would be asking where it is because they are all traditionalists. I considered fancy Pintrest suggestions but they were all too much money and work. I ended up buying a super basic one on sale at hobby lobby for like $10. I will probably store it after for awhile but eventually it will get thrown out in a spring cleaning

Originally I wanted to have one of those trees where everyone signs a leaf. But then I also wanted to have Polaroids out and a book for people to leave photos in and both seemed like too much. So I just bought a nice sketch book with good thick pages that I'm going to leave out and people can leave pictures if they want, or write something if they want, or draw something if they want (we have a lot of artistic friends and family). I know not everyone will do it, but I look forward to seeing what people decide to do. I'm sure it'll end up tucked away on the bookshelf eventually but it seems like a nice thing to pull out on anniversaries or something to look through in the future.

I'm not doing one. I view it as a waste of time and just one more thing that needs a place in my house.

I got a disney castle guest book alternative because I can hang it up in my makeup room afterwards and remember my Disney wedding forever. I never considered an actual book lol.

Where did you get the large letter? Thinking of doing this for our “guest book” too!

Its such a cute idea and I love how easy it is to display afterwards. We got ours at Hobby Lobby. The website says $19.99 but we bought it in the store and all their signs are on sale or were when we bought ours. This is the sign we got, but with a K. They had a lot of different styles of letters.

The guest book is pretty much the equivalent of a yearbook. You know who was there, you have pictures, and it gives them the opportunity to say, "your amazing, XOXO ~name" kinda thing. I do prefer the alternative versions so it becomes a piece of artwork rather than a random book that gets buried and never looked at.

We are not doing a guest book. I originally thought we would do a canvas I saw on Etsy with a tree where everyone signs a leaf but I have to say I am really loving the idea of the wooden letter. Where did you find yours Luca?

When we got engaged I bought a guestbook and I’m putting mini cards with envelopes in it for people to sign but the closer we get to the wedding the more I’m thinking I really didn’t need it! I have it so oh well but if I didn’t already have one I probably wouldn’t be buying one now!

I don’t want one and my FH is a stickler to a lot of the traditional aspects. So we’re going to do something that we can actually use later. I’ve seen jenga blocks, date night ideas jar, bibles with a space on the side for guests to sign and highlight scripture, a garden/porch bench, a tree with fingerprints, etc.

We were thinking of doing a picture guest book with the instant cameras. I love looking back on pictures and it will be more informal and fun or so I hope.

We’re doing a non traditional one. We’ll either do a calendar and people write on their birthdays (so we know) or a photo book of us throughout the years with each other and family members and having people sign near their favorite photo. When I think of traditional guestbooks, I think of wakes/ funerals i’ve Been at.

I'm still figuring out the details, but I'm having my guest sign plain white index cards with black sharpies. After the wedding, I'll snap pictures or scan them and remove the background. Once I have all the digital photos from my photographer and the photo booth, I'll make one album with all the pictures and signatures. So instead of having an engagement album, a wedding album, a photo booth album, and a guest book... I'll just have the one book of all the greatest stuff in it.

We did one, but didn't do the traditional "book" or anything. A couple whose wedding we attended recently did a book of their engagement photos and used that as their guestbook, which was neat - but not our style. Since I'm an artist and we preferred something we could display instead of shove on a shelf and forget about, I painted a canvas and had our guests sign that. He's from Minnesota, I'm from Illinois, and it has our initials & date. We loved when people wrote a little longer of a message than just their names - like a marriage tip, an inside joke, whatever it was.

I have one because my mom saw one on sale that she thought was cute. Most people just signed, some left nice notes. It wasn't something I cared about either way.

My sister-in-law used a free photo book promotion from Shutterfly and made a book with a lot of their engagement pics and pics from their relationship. People signed on random pages and left notes - I thought that was really cute and it's a little more interesting to look at later.

I have family guestbooks from previous decades. I love looking at the names of people who supported my family and cared for us even before I was born. So it’s important to me to have a guestbook to keep. I hope people write a note but even if they don’t I want to have the list.

We did one because we felt like we had to and ended up throwing it away after the wedding because barely anyone signed it and we didn't care about it. If you don't want one, don't waste your money!

Definitely didn't want a book hanging around. So we did wine bottles that we will open on each specific anniversary.
