Guest Book Pro-Con

Kelly, on July 23, 2013 at 4:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

OK-I am officially driving myself nuts trying to figure out what I am forgetting--guest books--anyone NOT doing one? I am not seeing a reason for one--and not sure what I would do with it afterwards?

We are older and not sure its as exciting as if we were in our 20's or something?

You can skip it if you'd like. Most ladies have done alternative guest books that can be displayed (jerseys, matted frames, records, etc.)

We had guests sign Christmas ornaments (December wedding) and we put them on our tree. I forgot to set out our photo guest book, but like you, it would have been fun to read once then it would be on our shelf.

We're doing a thumbprint tree we can hang on the wall.

ETA: I don't think anyone will care if there isn't one. The last wedding I went to I forgot to even sign it.

I know i can't remember the last one I went to that had one---

I think maybe something cool like a framed old map would work for our style--but to me that just means now I have stalk etsy for a good map--frame it--and I am tired of spending money! UGH! thanks all

I do not see the point of the guest book. We had one at my bat mitzvah and I have not looked at it since I was 13 (15 years ago...). Not wasting the money on one.

I didnt care about it. Half the weddings i have gone to didnt have one. We made a photo boook using the e-pics we did so we used them for something. About half (if that) signed it. Now it sits on our shelf. I think its dumb personally.

I'm not doing one. I figure I wouldn't display anything afterwards and so it would end up as clutter. I will remember who was there bc I'm only having 80 people. Do what works for you!

I had a free shutterfly bookk coupon so i just went with that. I used our e-pics so it's a combo guest book/ e-pic photo book.

I don't think it's something i'll look at the day after the wedding, but 20 years from now, i'll pull it out and have fond memories. I am having an alternate book as well (a puzzle). One thing with the alternate ones, I hate it when there is only room to write your name - the best part of the guest book is the little messages people write the bride/groom.

My daughter used a wood and iron bench. She says her guest bench.

My sis is getting married this Sunday and I think she's skipping it.

I wanted to do exactly as M2H has said--get a free book from Shutterfly and create a photobook/guestbook with our engagement photos... Problem is, we've not take the photos and I am not sure when and if we'll be able to (FH had cancer and with all the treatment and side effect of the treatments/meds, he's still not quite looking like himself...)

    :-(

-Glenda--why don't you just use old pics you have out there on facebook or where ever of the two of you--and best wishes for his good health!

I did a photo guest book. I designed it myself with my scrapbook software so it matches my wedding colors and theme.

FSIL did the same thing after I made mine, and her wedding was last week. I was a bridesmaid so I never saw how well it went over. She also did a globe for people to sign and mark places they have been/liked to go on there.

The only thing you have to do, is make sure you get a smudge proof pen. I went to a wedding last August that had framed engagement photos that everyone was supposed to sign on the picture mat. They used gel pens and they ended up smearing all over the place, including the mats.

We did the matted frame thing. I love it and will hang it in the house.

We are doing a section of a tree that everyone will sign then we are planning on sealing it and turning it into an end table for use in our house so we can see it everyday

There are some great alternatives to guest books that would otherwise just take up space on a shelf. I love the idea of a calendar and getting everyone b-day's with their name on their date. We opted for a custom tree and finger prints for the leaves. It will look like a cherry blossom tree when it's all filled. A one of a kind piece of art crafted by all the guests.
