Grooms engagement or wedding gift?

Private User, on April 10, 2013 at 1:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Has anyone bought their fiancé a gift when they got engaged - like a watch? Or for the wedding?? Is this common? If so what did u get him? Thanks

I don't think he should get something for proposing lol but I know some girls have. Usually the bride and groom will exchange a gift on their wedding day but its not mandatory.

I am thinking about getting a pocket watch, but I don't know yet. I know that it is common. But then again nice lingerie can be for him too.

FH is getting a watch as a wedding gift. One that I know he wants, but won't spend the money on himself.

No engagement gift....because actually I AM his gift! lol but I have decided to give him this right before we sit down for dinner. Bottom line my FH is an amazing griller...we always bbq and he also must have a hole in his bottom lip, because he always gets something on the front of his shirt while we are eating. His outfit is way too expensive, and I don't want it ruined with our buffet dinner. Plus.....we are super casual and this will get alot of laughs during the reception Smiley smile

Definitely not an engagement gift but I am getting FH a black Guess watch the morning of the wedding. I've heard some brides give gifts and some don't. I think it's all up to you. FH's boss asked what he was getting me as a gift and he didn't know he was supposed to. I told him I don't think we should worry about it and save the money so it'll be a surprise for him. I think it's all personal preference!

I got my H an engagement watch, but we didn't do any gifts the morning of the wedding. He loves watches, and I wanted to give him something somewhat expensive, since he gave me an expensive ring, so...

    But that's just me.

I was cheesey and did lingerie Smiley smile With purple (his fav color) and turquoise (my fav color). I kinda feel dorky admitting that... but I'm clicking POST COMMENT anyway.

Nice watches are a very common gift to grooms. I was going to get DH's nice watch fixed for the wedding but it was virtually the same price to get him a new one. I got him a Swiss Army watch since he likes the brand. Not a Rolex...but it will do for now Smiley smile

I gave him an engagement ring of his own to wear. for the wedding im giving him a scrapbook of our time together, and my "virginity till marriage" contract from high school in a pretty box with a pair of scissors. Im thinking about letting him open both of them after the wedding, when we are alone, because the back of the scrapbook will have a boudoir shoot in it and i dont need the groomsmen seeing that.

The morning of our wedding we exchanged gifts. He gave me a pearl necklace (I had mentioned wanting to wear one for our wedding, but thought we were not going to be able to afford it) and I gave him a personalized engraved saber to wear with his dress blues. He looked dashing Smiley winking worth every last penny!

I too am doing a nice watch for FH on our wedding day. A week after our engagement I gave him a two-page letter thanking him for asking me to be his wife and telling him why I loved him, how excited I was for our future, and how lucky we both were to be in love. I'm saving the boudoir shoot for our first anniversary. I'm doing that because I think it will be fun to follow the traditional anniversary gift list throughout our lives....it will make anniversary gifts all the more special and fun to find! The first year is paper so the boudoir book fits perfectly!

RayRay - are you doing it for the whole traditional anniversary gift thing...or just because?

I'm actually getting my boudoir pics done right after our honeymoon because we are TTC immediately after the wedding so I'm trying to avoid the baby bump in those pics LOL!
