Groom wearing different suit than groomsman? Did you buy or rent your suits?

Brianna, on July 12, 2018 at 3:01 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
I’m thinking that I want my fiancé to wear a charcoal color suit for our wedding. I know I don’t want to go the tuxedo route and there is only two rental options at the nearest Jos A Bank. One was a light gray and the other black. My fiancé is an attorney and gets all his suits custom usually. We only have two groomsmen. I was thinking he could buy a new charcoal suit since he will need one for work anyway and we could rent the lighter gray ones for the groomsmen. Or maybe I should just buy the suits. But I know my fiancé will want a well-made, tailored, more expensive suit along the lines of $500-800. We will be paying for the attire because our groomsmen are my brother and his brother. My brother is in college and his is going through some family issues Atm. I guess the big question I have is would it look odd if they wear different greys? I kind of like the idea of him standing out though. In addition, if you purchased your suits, can you tell me where you found the best deal? What brands are inexpensive, but still look nice in photos? Thanks in advance!

I don't think groom should be dressed exactly like the BMan or other groomsmen on principle. Would anyone even consider a bride and her 3 attendants wearing 4 matching white wedding dresses? The groom should be dressed more formally , better suit, different , than the other guys. They should be compatible styles and colors. Two lighter gray not necessarily the same as each other, are great with charcoal.

My fiance and his groomsmen got their whole attire from jcpenney. Just tried everything on last night only one item was a little small but easy to exchange.

My FH got a custom charcoal gray suit from Jos A Bank and then having the groomsmen rent charcoal gray suits from the blacktux online. They start at $110 which I think is reasonable. They do home try ons so i was able to bring the suit to jos a bank to compare the color! Might be an option for you!

Our groomsmen got custom suits through indochino. They’re wearing charcoal so that they can use the suit again. My FH is wearing burgundy suit bc he didn’t want to look like he was off to a normal day in the office.

This is what we did and they got their suits from H&M! and if you bring 2 articles of clothing you get 15% and it was super affordable. Also we got the ties from tiemart for $9!

We’re doing groomsmen in light gray and my FH wanted to stand out in a darker gray. I don’t think it’s weird to have the different colors, and my FH definitively wanted to have a darker suit. He’s gotten a costum one while the groomsmen are renting them.

What color would uour FH like to wear? Does he have any opinions on the options for your groomsmen?

I like this variety of different tones, nothing clashes, but not a penguin convention look, which I particularly dislike before sunset, which means very late evening in the summer is the only time I like true black tux formality from a whole group on the men's side. Everyone an individual, groomed and polished to each look like their best selves.

My FH is also an attorney, so he just bought a new suit and I'm pretty sure he's being wearing it already! But he got it tailored and everything from Suit Supply, so he loved it. FH also bought a really affordable suit from ASOS and had minor alterations. Looks amazing and cost effective AF!

We aren't coordinating the guys' suits. Not even colors. Just having the three groomsmen wear whatever suit they want! I do know that my brother bought a new one on sale and FBIL bought a really cheap suit at Banana and carved it up to fit him--says its the best thing ever and really affordable (and he's very picky).

I think considering your FH will re-wear his, it makes sense to buy (unless he wants a tux, because who will really rewear a tux). And I don't think different color greys will look odd at all.
