I'll make it quick...

My reception card has the following sentence - which is the appropriate punctuation placement?

1. "Join us by continuing the celebration with cocktails, dinner and dancing" blah blah

OR

2. "Join us by continuing the celebration with cocktails, dinner, and dancing"

Where are my teachers at!?! HELP

Technically the Oxford comma is a stylist choice butttt I use it. So number 2!

Ps not a teacher, just a grammar freak.

Oxford comma is a choice, both are technically correct, that said I use it so I'd say #2

Yep the Oxford comma is technically not required. I'm a fan of it,though, so I would use #2.

Isn't it "Join us IN" and not by?

I'm no expert by any means...

So I'm the weird one here and say no Oxford comma. It's not necessary here and the sentence is just as clear with the comma as it is without.

Both are correct in the US, however #2 is more widely accepted and traditionally correct.

ETA "Join us by" is correct in the sentence here. If you used in it would be "join us in celebrating the new Mr and Mrs..." and that would only be used if the beginning of your invitation started with "Mr and Mrs Brides parents invite you to the marriage of...."

I was taught by national authors and people who taught at Oxford for "fun".

I've come to appreciate oxford comma, but I went through a journalism program that trained me to only use when necessary for clarity (like the stripper Hitler example above). I like consistency and have adopted oxford comma, so I would use #2. BUT you are correct in using either.

Oxford comma is a useless extra keystroke. If you're relying on a comma to make your sentence clear you need to rewrite it.

I would also probably say "Join us to continue the celebration" rather than what you have haha.
