A person from high school recently got engaged she immediately reached out to me to see how much I would charge to do her hair for the weekend. Then the next day she set up a gofundme account for her wedding " asking for donations in leu of gifts at the wedding." She has proceeded to share it every 2 hours on Facebook for the last 4 days. I'm not one to lecture on etiquette but this particular situation really struck me as slightly beyond the level of acceptability... I know I have been very blessed with that my finances did allow me to have a wonderful wedding but even if they didn't i was already planning a court house ceremony followed by a backyard reception as a backup and would never have fathomed asking for money from anyone...

Thoughts?

Uggg... The whole "wedding gifts we are never going to use" line is so offensive. It basically translates to "you all have poor taste and your gifts will suck so just give me money".

We got some awesome wedding gifts. They are in storage until we get our new place but I am so excited to use them. Not all wedding gifts are destined to sit in a corner and gather dust.

A girl on my FB did this a few months ago. Posted it every other hour for a week and got like $25. She finally took it down and said they were going to postpone or just go to the court house (duh!) she's an RN and he works, so it's not that they don't have money, they just can't manage it. I've never understood why other peoples financial stupidity is everyone else's responsibility to fix.

Umm no just no. Who does that? I got engaged on Christmas 2012 and we started saving Jan of this year. We we start planning our wedding 2016 cause that's when we will have our full budget. We are not asking our parents for anything so we can control our wedding and have a say in every aspect. I would never ask for a dime. I only expected my so call sperm donor to chip in since he never gave me anything in my life but nope. So he's booted off my wedding guest list. He won't have no father/daughter dance or walk me down the aisle. My mom will do that job.

What is really tacky and lacks etiquette is you talking about her behind her back. It is passive aggressive and doesn't solve the problem. Grow a spine and talk to her privately instead of posting it on the internet for anyone and everyone to see.

And one more thing, who are any of you to judge? Talking about etiquette as though there was any these days. Times have changed...move up with them. Obviously her circumstances are such that it is difficult for her to get the wedding of her dreams (hopefully a once in a lifetime event) so, she is asking for help. SO what?!? What ever happened to having some compassion? My advice?

    TALK TO HER.

Perhaps she will back off of the incessant posting of her go fund my wedding account. I am 56 years old and want a beautiful wedding of my dreams. It is my second marriage. My first husband passed away. We didn't have a nice wedding until 20 years later and even then I settled. This guy I am with now is a true prince and the love of my life and I want to share it with the world. Unfortunately, I have been unemployed for six years and have not had a break, nor do I see one in the near future. I have no intention of doing a go fund me account but, I have absolutely no problem with someone who does. Everyone has a story and everyone deserves the wedding of their dreams. Nothing I despise more than a bunch of hateful, judgmental, catty people. Grow the hell up!
