Gloves with wedding gown? Need your opinion!

lovebean, on August 5, 2014 at 11:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

My husband and I are having a 1920's themed wedding next month. I am considering wearing elbow length gloves with my gown because gloves were popular back in this era. I've never worn gloves for any event, and I like the drama of it. I was thinking black gloves, though a couple people have commented on why I chose black instead of white. What do you think? My dress (still being altered, hence the beading hanging on the front) has small black accents in the beading, and hubby will be wearing a white tux with black accents, black shirt, white bow tie and white suspenders. I think when we are standing together, the black gloves will go nicely together. Check out the photos. Thoughts?

I think the black gloves are nice but I also think that you need some more black accessories like something in your hair, a belt, shoes, etc.

Not a huge fan. When I look at that photo the thing that stands out is the black gloves, not you and your beautiful dress.

I don't think I like the gloves. I understand why you might do it, but it just seems off for a wedding to me. Especially during the ceremony I think it might be odd not being able to actually touch your FH. Maybe shorter white gloves for the reception might go better?

That being said do what makes you happy. Smiley smile

I think if you do them just do white. One thing I always wondered about the glove thing... How will he get the ring on your finger?

I love the idea of adding black accents, but I think the gloves look cheesy. Maybe hair accessories with black, or have black in your bouquet.

I'd use them for photos, but skip them for the ceremony.

The black gloves are beautiful with your theme! Very fitting. And if you were drawn to them as your first choice you should go with them. Choosing white instead would enforce the bridal white but not your theme as much. Do think of the ring because unless your ring is big on you I don't think it will fit. Which if that is the car, I support someone's idea of only wearing them for photos

We aren't exchanging rings, (we have tattoos) so that isn't a concern with the gloves. I've thought about wearing them in photos only or maybe for part of the reception. We are doing a hand binding during the ceremony, which is my biggest hesitation with the gloves. Seems like it might be strange to hold hands while I have gloves on.

I'm not a fan of the gloves. My eyes go straight to them. If you want to wear them you should add more black accessories.

I agree with KimS, maybe for the party portion by not the ceremony. Personally I'm not a fan, at least for a wedding. My eyes are drawn right to them and I don't even notice your dress. If you are set on wearing gloves I probably would not do white ones, though. I think white gloves would make you look Cinderella-ish vs. 1920-ish.

You could always try fingerless gloves, (they make some that come to a point at the back of your hand and there is a small loop that would go around your middle finger to secure them).

I think the black is VERY striking but If you go that route, I think you should add more black accessories to tie it all together.

Love the dress, hate the gloves. To me, they don't even look like they are from that era. If you're going for a 1920's feel a veil like this would be beautiful and could help get your theme across or the headpiece below with black beading added to it would be beautiful

I don't hate them, but my eyes are drawn to them. I kind of like them with your theme. But, if you are only going to be wearing them in a few photos and some of the reception, I don't see why not.

I think people are not going to like the black gloves because they conflict with the traditional image of the white-wearing bride. If you like them, you should wear them.

I personally don't like gloves with wedding gowns. Whenever I hear of 1920's themed weddings, Great Gatsby, etc., I always envision the bride wearing a beautiful bridal cap/veil. Something like this:
