Gifts received before shower - thank you notes

Margot, on February 4, 2023 at 12:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Hi there! My shower is in a couple weeks but we have started receiving gifts (shower invites have not gone out yet as far as I know). When do you send a thank you note for gifts received early?

You always want to send a thank you note as soon as possible. Gets it out of the way and let’s them know you received the gift.

I would send a thank you note right after you receive the gift. That way they know you got it and you don't forget to send a thank you note.

From what I have learned from having ADHD is you should never, ever procrastinate, you should do them ASAP while they are still on your mind because then you will forget about them and people will start wondering. Plus, it would be good to start doing the thank you cards for the early gift so you get them out of the way and not have a huge workload after the wedding.

Always send a thank you right away. It ensures you don’t forget and the person has peace of mind because they know you actually got the gift.

We had a couple friend that decided to wait a while on thank you notes and it drove us crazy. Amazon had delivered our gift to their door, so we were about ready to assume it had been stolen and our money was lost. I found something on the order page where I could email them a receipt in case they want to return it, so I decided to use that as a way to possibly find out whether they had received it without outright asking them “did you guys get our gift?” I sent the email with the gift receipt and said “Oh just realized I forgot to send the gift receipt in case y’all end up needing to return it!” The bride texted thanks and that she had also gotten the physical receipt with the item 😬😬😬😬

Thank you cards should go out immediately. The shower is a completely separate event.
