Gift table attendant - advice please!

Jennifer, on March 10, 2012 at 7:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

So after the topics we've had on here about the card boxes being stolen, etc. I'm thinking I should have a guest book attendant or someone near the tables so that no one can run off with our presents.... however, I'm having a hard time figuring out who I assign to this task? It doesn't sound like a super fun one..... What did you guys do?

We are probably going to have my FH's father responsible for the cards. The card table won't be right near the entrance, it will be closer to our table, and then FH's parents will bring all the cards home with them when the reception ends. We'll pick them up in the AM.

Is there a close friend of your parents that you could ask to do this for you? I'd stray away from younger people like nieces, nephews, cousins, your friends...not because they can't be trusted, but because they'll be more likely distracted and you want them to enjoy your wedding as much as possible.

I would assign an older person as Future Mrs. X mentioned. Do you have a space you can take the gifts to for safe keeping? IME In the past once most guests have dropped off the gifts someone took them to another room that could be locked or put in the trunk of a car. Cards given to a feisty grandmother for safe keeping Smiley winking

I hadn't thought about that, since it's not going to be a fun task, maybe you could have a couple of people do it in shifts so everyone could still enjoy themselves. Thanks for giving me something to think about.

It also depends on the type of the venue and the size of the wedding. But we essentially did what Carrie said, and the gift table was away from the door. We had a small wedding though, so chances of someone walking in and just taking something from the gift table were close to none. We only asked one friend to empty the card box at one point and lock the cards in the car.

It's not about guests stealing, it's more about somebody from the outside sneaking in and taking stuff. Particularly at very large weddings where people don't know everybody.

I can't even imagine this happening. I'd ask someone from the venue to take car of this.

Our card box is pretty big (and rightfully so!) so if anyone is running off with it - they will get creamed by a crazy bridezilla!! Lol.

But seriously, we will have the "guestbook & gift table" by the door to the reception and a really great friend of mine will stand by until all guests are signed in and such and then she will nonchalantly remove the card box from it's place and put it somewhere safe.
