Getting ready at venue... Need advice.

Asena O., on July 18, 2015 at 4:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

I am getting married at a country club, contracts are signed and deposit paid, so I can't cancel. The only problem I have is there isn't really a designated place to get ready.. I somehow overlooked this when asking questions, but they recently told me I could get ready in the member locker room.. I am just worried there won't be enough room/privacy for me to get in my dress and everything? I was trying to decide if I should just be in my dress and all ready, before arriving to the venue. Due to a time crunch, I will be having hair and make up done at a nearby hotel, so I could just get ready there. I guess I am also worried about messing up my dress on the ride over?

Any and all advice is appreciated! Thanks ladies!

I worked at a country club that hosted weddings and remember several brides that changed into their dress in the member locker room. They are usually very spacious and to be honest the women's locker room rarely had anyone ever in it. Every time I saw a bride in there everyone else was great about staying out of the bridal parties way. The only hiccup might be if you wanted pictures taken while actually getting into your dress. Depending on the decor of the room and how it's set up would be the only factor for me if I was in your situation.

I would get ready (hair, make up, dress) at the hotel for "getting ready" photos and then get out of the dress for the ride over to the venue.

I got ready at a hotel and then was driven (by a BM) to the venue. Then I was fluffed when I got out. It was just fine!

My husband had to get dressed in a member locker room. It was a bit awkward (people were in and out using the restroom). They got some funny pictures but he wasn't a fan of it. If you just need to get in your dress it won't be a big deal, but he was kind of trapped in there to not see me. So if you'll be trapped in there to not see guests/fiance, just get dressed at the hotel and then show up right as you're needed!

I agree with @MrsWhite. You can take really nice getting ready pictures while at the hotel. However you want - you can take it off and then put it back on or just keep it on (from the hotel to the venue).

Don't give this another thought Sure, lots of brides get ready in bridal suites at the venue. Others get ready in hotel suites and take the limo over to the church or venue (my daughter chose the hotel suite/limo route -- and she got the added benefit of lots of oohs and aahs and she walked through the hotel lobby and headed for the limo). You won't mess up your dress. Even if you are driven to the venue in a private car, you'll be fine as long as you don't stop for Taco Bell. It's not a disaster, really. Just tell your photographer where you'll be for the getting ready shots.

My venue doesn't offer a place to get ready since its a bar/resturant/brewery, so I'm getting ready at the hotel. Not too worried about messing up the dress. It will probably be easier if you get ready all in one place, since it's a hotel your getting ready at.

Just get ready at the hotel if you're worried about it. I got ready at my parents' and then rode over with 10 people (BP, my parents, FG and RB) in the limo and it was fine (about a half hour ride). Your dress won't get messed up beyond needing a quick fluff.

Our venue has a bridal suite but we can only get into the venue an hour before the ceremony starts. We will be getting ready at a local hotel. I want to be able to relax, and not worry about forgetting my stuff lol. Plus we needed a space big enough to have the hair and makeup artist there, plus 10 women getting ready. I would just suggest that! You won't mess up your dress or veil on the way over!

Ask them if most brides use the locker room for this purpose. Also, ask your photographer if they've done other weddings at your venue (or search for wedding pics of that venue with a google search) and see if you see shots of getting ready in the locker rooms.

I got married at a golf course. There were apartments available to get ready in but me and the girls got ready (hair, makeup dress) at a nearby hotel and just made the 20 minute drive. No problems

I agree, maybe you can get a hotel room nearby and get ready there. I wouldn't do it at the locker room...since you don't know if you will have privacy

My venue doesn't have a room for getting ready really either. There is a bathroom and a small...breezeway I guess only it's enclosed. I will be hanging curtains over the windows so that no one will see me in my dress before the ceremony and walking out into the garden where the ceremony will be from there. I plan to get all ready except for my dress at home and then get dressed at the venue. It doesn't really bother me that it's not super private but I can see where that might be an issue for some people. It doesn't bother me to get changed with no more people than will be there since it'll just me my mom, aunt, and bridesmaids. I don't want to risk my dress getting dirty or snagged on anything on the way over especially since it's pretty big. If my dress were a slimmer silhouette or something maybe it would be different but we are borrowing my parents van for the ride home at the end of the night because I don't want to squeeze into my car even after the wedding.

I would just do whatever you feel most comfortable with. Also, if you do decide to change there I would think depending on how the place is set up it might be possible for a bridesmaid or someone to watch the door for no longer than it would take for you to be at least covered in your dress. It wouldn't be so big a deal if someone saw you being laced or buttoned, etc.

We wore our dresses for the ride from the ceremony venue to the reception venue. Not only did they not get messed up, but everyone who saw us was smiling.

Last Wednesday I was in my cousin's wedding in LA. They have taken a hall for rent for the wedding reception. I must say I have never seen a reception hall like that one. It was spacious and very big. Also, they have provided with the huge rooms for the bride and groom for getting ready. The hall authorities also provided an extra room for the guests if they want to keep anything there, the room also consisted of lockers of http://www.a-1locksafe.com/ to keep anything costly. Overall, I completely enjoyed the ceremony and especially the Banquet Hall and the facilities they provide to guests.
