Gemstone rings: how did you decide?

Sarah, on May 14, 2019 at 2:15 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
My partner and I both plan on getting non-diamond rings: I know she wants sapphires because blue is her favorite color and they’re her birthstone, and I want an opal because my grandmother always wore opal jewelery including a positively massive opal ring, and opals have always been my favorite stone because of that 😊

For everyone who has something other than a clear/white stone in their ring(s), how did you choose which stone or stones to use? I’m curious to hear your stories!

(side note: please, no one tell me not to get an opal because they’re fragile or high maintenance. I know all this. I’ve done my research. I want one anyway 🙃)

I think an opal will be so beautiful! I have seen a lot of vintage opal rings from maejeanvintage on etsy.

I have a morganite ring with a diamond halo. I'm obsessed with it. I knew I didn't want all diamonds because I wanted something more unique and "me". The morganite fits me perfectly and looks so good with the rose gold that my ring is made of as well.

I have a sapphire just because I prefer the color and it’s nearly as durable as a diamond. I also considered blue topaz, but went with the sapphire because of durability.

I think you two made the right decision. When my parents got engaged, my mom wanted a ring with emeralds in it, but they are quite fragile, so the salesperson directed them to a really beautiful ring that had a small diamond in the Middle surrounded by two sapphires on a gold band. Very simple and elegant.

Fast forward, my FH got a meteorite wedding band for himself, which can’t be resized and does require some maintenance or else it will rust. As long as you’re prepared for the maintenance your ring will require you shouldn’t have a problem. Smiley smile

My main stone is aquamarine, the two side stones are London blue topaz, and there are white diamonds along the band. There is no story behind the colors. No sentimental reasoning. I picked them because they're pretty 🤷🏾‍♀️ and teal is one of my favorite colors.
