Funny vs. Serious Wedding Band Engravings

2014AD, on May 8, 2014 at 2:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Are any of you engraving your wedding bands? Are you going with something funny or serious? How would you feel if you write something serious/nice for you FH and he writes something silly? or the other way around?

I never thought about engraving as a "must do" but FH wanted to engrave something on mine, so I said ok. We went to the store Saturday and apparently he had what he wanted on my ring in mind for the last year. I know it is sweet but I had no idea what I wanted to write on his and felt horrible. Long story short, our jeweler went all "awww" when she read what FH wrote and laugh hysterically when reading what I wrote: "Love you more than ice cream." Sigh. I'm sure he wrote something sweet and serious. Now I'm regretting writing something funny. Of course jeweler said "it is soooo you."

I think you should put in whatever you want whether it's funny or serious. If you think FH will appriciate your humor even if he wrote something more serious in yours then go with it! Only you will know how he's going to react...I want to engrave our bands, but not sure what to go with yet

We didn't engrave DH's and mine is too thin, so no engraving here. I'd ask DH what he thinks, since he's the one who'll wear it. If you both wish it was something sentimental, I'd bet the jeweler could redo it. I think your sentiment is perfect, however. My husband *loves* ice cream, and if that were on my ring, it would make me laugh and smile every time I thought about it!

I think what you wrote is sweet AND funny. He'll love it no matter what.

I'm engraving "Our love is madness" or Madness 4/18/2015" on his - Madness by Muse is our song...its not cute or sweet but early on in our relationship it reminded us of eachother haha.

Mine was to thin for engraving, but his says "My one true love" I'd been married before so this saying seemed to fit. DH is my "one"

I have friends that put "Honeymoon forever" in both of theirs.

I feel engravings should be something unique to the couple.

I am engraving "Life-changing" on FH's ring. That's what he said to me on our first date.

Like never before. That's what will be engraved in our rings. It's a lyric from "our" song.

Thank you ladies! He knows how much I love ice cream :-)

Kelly, I actually thought about "my one true love."

Also a good one for star wars fans: "Married you are"

I think as long as it reflects you as a couple either one is fine. We're considering engraving "Always" in ours, but haven't picked rings yet. Always by Erasure is our song.

I am putting FH's nickname I have for him in his - he will be surprised and I will not tell him about it...I am going to say it will be 2 years before he realizes there is something etched inside band.

My FH is BIG into the superhero/avenger/spiderman thing. And he's so wonderful at keeping me together and always "coming to my rescue" so I put "to my superhero" on the inside of his ring Smiley smile As far as I know, he's not engraving mine.
