Friday Wedding

Porterpoppin, on December 2, 2017 at 9:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

So first off I haven't planned anything lol we just had our baby November 2nd so basically I've been pregnant most of our engagement. We did look at venues over the last few months and again today, pretty sure we've found our venue and we're putting a deposit down Wednesday. Anywho, we're getting married on a Friday (September 7, 2018). I'm curious on if you had a Friday Wedding what time you began your ceremony, how everything went, if people actually showed up, if people stayed..etc. And if you didn't have a Friday Wedding what would you prefer as a guest for a wedding start time? If you think you'd stay?

I appreciate all responses!

Congratulations.on your baby ! I had a Thursday wedding and our ceremony began at 7pm. Our reception ended at 11 and people came back to our hotel to continue the party. It was a great time and we only had four people decline and a lot of our guests were OOT. We had 106 people attend and people loved it! With that said, Friday is definitely and easier day for a wedding in my opinion. I think a 7pm start time would also be good to allow those who do have to work have time to make it. I think guests would stay considering it is the start of the weekend (assuming most guest are off on the weekends) Honestly, just make sure yurt VIPs are okay with a Friday wedding and go from there. We made sure everyone we absolutely wanted there were able to make it to a Thursday wedding and then went on with the planning. Friday weddings are very common!

    Congrats!

We do Fridays all the tie, and Thursdays are very hot with some of my venues. I don't see a much smaller RSVP total at them (we compare from our first conversation to our final....). Most of these start at 5:30 or 6:30 (honestly, most people aren't going to come right from work...)

Thanks you guys! I was thinking either 6 or 7pm to give people time. It is the start of the weekend for most people so hopefully they do stay. I hadn't considered a Thursday wedding because was scared people wouldn't come. I've talked to my VIPs and they're totally okay with a Friday wedding so that does make me feel better lol

The only negative I see to that date is it's the weekend after Labor Day. So many people travel for that three day weekend. It might be hard to go to your wedding the following weekend.

Just wanted to throw that out there Smiley smile

I would like a 7 PM start time on a Friday if it was in the town I live in, and I would not plan to leave the wedding early. If I was an OOT guest, I wouldn't really care about the time, since I would take Friday off entirely.

We're doing a Friday wedding with a 4:30 ceremony start time. It's over the summer and my fiance and I are both teachers, along with all members of our wedding party so we will be off work anyway! I ran it by other VIPs first and everyone agreed Friday worked great! I think Friday weddings are becoming more and more common Smiley smile

@Emma I am not trying to sound rude but are all your guests teachers? Cause 4:30 seems really early for everyone else to get off of work go home get ready and be at the wedding in time.

I went to a Friday wedding in October that had the ceremony at 3pm. I thought the church was pretty full but I think more people skipped the ceremony and only came at 5pm when the reception began.

The groom said he was surprised how many of their guests were able to attend.

Ahh Giselle thank you for that insight I hadn't considered that people may not want to leave work early or come from out of town if they were just off the weekend before.

Dexter 7pm is sounding like a great start time. considering it's still summer, still decently bright outside. I may do 6/6:30 that way pictures are done by 7/7:30 and people aren't waiting too late to eat

@brenda that's awesome! I'm scared people won't show but I figure after 6 people should be off of work and more available. I just know I don't wanna waste money on no shows

I think it also depends on how far away the venue is from everyone.

I'm having a Friday wedding in 3 weeks!! I have had a very high acceptance rate, and I was prepared for lower. We are starting at 6:30 pm, which helped more guests reply yes. Also, we are doing cocktail hour, then ceremony, to give guests even more of a window to make it.

I had to do Friday because here in New York, Saturdays tend to be super pricy. I love my venue, and seriously, no regrets!! but check with your VIPs and START LATE. Trust me- start late.

We had a Friday wedding, our ceremony started at 4:30. The majority of our guests were from out of town. The handful of local guests invited had no issue with the time.

We're having a Friday wedding with a 4:30 pm ceremony time. All our VIPs were well aware of the date before we booked anything, and most of our guest list knows it's on a Friday. We also have a lot of friends with job schedules that aren't the 9-5 type - most of FH's circle are musicians with flexible or odd schedules, for example. I'm expecting some declines. I know the ceremony is early enough that some won't make it, so if they miss the ceremony and come to the reception I'm fine with that. I'm also sending STDs a little early, probably Jan, and I plan to send invites a little early too.

We started our Fri wedding at 5pm. We only had 1 couple that couldn't make that time & showed up for the reception. Note that majority of our 'yes' RSVPs we're local...so that helps & I doubt most had to take off more than 1-2hrs from work.
