Frequently Asked questions on our wedding site? what do you think?

Patricia , on October 11, 2011 at 10:15 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

I got this list from another bride on here, plus added some additional questions based on what I’ve been asked by some of my guests, what do you think, too harsh, anything I should add, change? Thanks

Do I need to RSVP? Yes! Please do not assume that we know that you are attending. You will be able to RSVP through our website, via email (email) or you can contact us by phone (phone#). Please note that if we do not hear from you by the deadline, we will mark you down as not attending. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Can I still come if I forgot to RSVP? Unfortunately, the answer is No. If you forgot to RSVP by the deadline, we marked you as not attending, therefore you should not come because you will not be allowed on the premises. We'd hate for you to be all dressed up for nothing, RSVP in time to avoid this.

Will you be calling to remind me to RSVP? Unfortunately, the answer is No. We trust you as an adult to RSVP in time (deadline is November 11th, 2011). See previous question...

I heard that I can not bring my children along. Is this true? Why no kids? As much as we love your kids, we can not accommodate them on this day. We simply believe that parents deserve a night out now & again to kick up their heels sans children. Consider it a favor for your kids as well - weddings are boring for small children and teenagers would rather be anywhere other than hanging out with their parents and their parents' friends for an entire day.

You like my kids. Are you sure they can't come? We're sure. No children please!

I see. So, what you're saying is that you hate kids? We swear that we're not children-haters. We plan to have our own soccer team some day. Please respect our wishes. Thank you

Will you be providing childcare on site? At this time we will not be providing childcare on site, please plan accordingly. We will try and gather a list of reliable babysitters as the event draws closer if possible, but it is your responsibility to find a sitter for your childr

I'm single. Am I allowed to bring a date? Unfortunately, because our guest list is already going through the roof and this is a small event for close friends and family only, we can't afford to accommodate any additional +1's. If you're part of a committed relationship, your partner will receive his/her own invitation. Although we wish we could have everyone bring a date, only those who personally receive an invitation can attend.

Can I send someone else if I can not attend? Unfortunately, the answer is No. Your invitation is not transferable to anyone, it is only for you, if you can not attend please kindly let us know, you can not transfer your invitation to anyone else regardless of your relationship to them.

What will the weather be like? What should I wear? We request that the attire to the wedding be formal, do your best to avoid white and red. With that said, weather in Florida is fairly unpredictable; please check the weather channel to prepare accordingly.

It's the day of the wedding and I have a question. Can I call you? You can, but there is a pretty serious chance you will not be able to reach us as our morning will be filled with getting ready & picture-taking. We will have a DOC (day of coordinator) that will be available to answer some of your questions. (info will be added later) We will also be designating certain family members & friends to help us on the big day as well who will be able to answer questions.

Can I take home a centerpiece? We are sure you are not thinking about this question, but if you are, unfortunately the answer is NO and we thank you in advance for your understanding.

Do I have to be there on time? Yes! We do not want you to miss anything. The ceremony will be held outdoors and will begin at 5 PM. Please arrive 30 minutes early to allow time for parking and seating.

Immediately after ceremony there will be cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres available in the lounge area while the bridal party and families take pictures. The reception will start immediately after.

I already RSVP but now I have an emergency and can't attend anymore, do I have to let you know? Yes, it helps us greatly to know if you are not coming anymore. You can contact us via this site, you can email us at (email), or you can give us a call (phone). Thank you

You have to be kidding about some of these questions, right? LOL...no we're not, we love you and we're pretty sure you love us too, so we know you'll respect our wishes and we thank you in advance.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to use the contact form and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Well first off, I haven't finished, but the rsvp questions sound way to harsh to me and too many.

Honestly, as a guest, I'd think you were sounding like b**** and I've been through the rsvp hassle myself so I know the reality behind what you are saying.

POssibly, a better approach might be, "Why is it necessary that I RSVP?"

I also think its ridiculous that you wont call anyone if they dont rsvp. People forget. it happens-have you never forgotten something? Especially since you're a december wedding, that means your RSVP date is likely during or a bit before thanksgiving-so right before all the holidays start.

I like the kids stuff overall, though I might consider taking out the line about small children being bored. I had a number of small kids at my wedding and they all had a blast. Even though kids were invited, a few parents still made sure they could bring their kid and their kid was super excited to come. I know of at least one or two little girls who have been playing wedding ever since coming to mine.

I feel like I can be blunt with you, since you are so blunt on your FAQ. You are definitely coming off very harsh and Bridezilla-ish. There are much more polite and firm ways to get your point across. As a professional writer, I can tell you that there is no need for you to go into so much detail in your responses.

    For example:

    You said:

I heard that I can not bring my children along. Is this true? Why no kids? As much as we love your kids, we can not accommodate them on this day. We simply believe that parents deserve a night out now & again to kick up their heels sans children. I would say:

I heard that I can not bring my children along. Is this true?

Yes, although we love children, our wedding is an adult only event.

We will have a Day of Coordinator and several designated family members just for such an occasion. Their names and numbers will be posted ____ soon.

I have to agree while we all may *think* these things that doesn't mean you actually *write* for out for your guests to see. It just comes across rude. I agree with Melissa's approach of not providing so many details just be straight to the point.

Emily Post has a website they may be helpful with wording:

Thank you ladies, I appreciate all the feed backs, that's why I posted this here, I like your suggestions Melissa, I will definitely update.

I copied most of these questions from another bride and I added a few based on questions I've been asked by my guests, so didn't really put much thoughts into all of them.

@bluedaisy, I had taken out the not calling part, honestly I've also dealt with it myself planning my friend's wedding back in february and even calling, people didn't even bother to call me back, it was a pain and I've decided not to go through it, if you don't rsvp, I'm not calling you. but FH has agreed to do the calling.

To answer your question, yes I've forgotten things but when it comes to rsvp, that is the reason why I always take care of them the minute I know about an event because I know how important it is. A lot of my guests will be the same as my friend's and I know their habit, you have to repeat things for them to finally hear ya, lol

I'm glad you've decided to call people at least once. (or your fh)...a way to make sure you aren't having to call a million times, is to leave 1 message and say, hey, hadn't heard from you about the wedding... please call and let me know if you are coming or not...if I don't hear from you in thenext 24-48 hours, I'm going to assume you aren't coming.

that way, its a nice reminder, but the ball is still there court and you aren't having to call people more than once.

RSVPs, I'm glad you are opting to call as well. I'm part of the .001% of people that has gotten the invite lost in the mail. Super awkward. I ended up having the bride come up to me at another event asking me if I was going to RSVP lol. I was like "oh good, I though we were close enough friends that I'd get invited but I didn't want to seem rude to ask for my invitation".
