It is usually one paragraph. Short and to the point

Yep, as Karis said- just something heartfelt, short, to the point. You don't want to make it too long or intimate to make your guests bored or uncomfortable. Anything beyond the vows that you need to say, you could always write a card or letter to be delivered to him morning of. =)

Yep, we did really a short paragraph, and read ours from a journal we wrote them in.

Here is what I wrote and said to my DH as my vow:

Who would have thought that a simple blind date would have led to this?

Our paths were meant to cross and meant to intertwine.

Not a day goes by where I don't look at you and smile, knowing how lucky I truly am to have you in my life.

Lucky to stand here, with you, and vow my love to you for the rest of our lives.

Lucky to embrace the love you have given me.

Lucky to know that I am marrying my best friend.

You have been my inspiration and have taught me so many things...you are so amazing.

You are strong, genuine, real, and loving...the rock and balance in my life.

To love you is to be loved by you.

Aristotle once said, "Love is a single soul inhabiting two bodies."

It wasn't until I met you that this quote finally made sense.

You are my other body...my soulmate.

And for this, I am truly grateful.

    I love you.

I agree! Try to keep it under 2-3 minutes reading time and that may even be pushing it I think. Here are mine :

I’ve waited all my life for this day

The day where I’d give myself entirely to another person

Today is that day and I wouldn’t want the person standing next to me to be anyone but you.

You have always been my safe place and one of the few constants in my life.

You have always loved me for who I am, and sometimes for who I’m not.

You’ve loved me from close by and far away.

Never doubting the love that we have

Not a day goes by where I don’t look at you and smile

Knowing exactly how truly lucky I am to have you in my life

And lucky to know I am marrying my best friend

I stand here today and promise to encourage and inspire you to do anything you want to

I promise to laugh with you and keep a sense of humor, even when I don’t think you’re funny

I promise to take your hand and stand by you in time of sorrow and struggle

When life seems easy and when it is hard....

When our love is simple and when it is an effort

I promise to kiss you always, tell you I love you every day and to even be the big spoon sometimes

So here is to the date nights, work days, fight nights, birthdays, up all nights, holidays and every day in-between with you.

I love you, for all the days of our lives.

Cydney! Do we have matching lines in our vows?! I remember like 4 or 5 months ago you sent me a copy of your vows and I think that line just stuck!

I'm in the process of my writing my vows. My BTB was the one that came up with the idea, but now is way more nervous about it because she says I'm a better writer. I see a lot of people on a lot of boards say 45-60 seconds in response to this same question, and I just simply don't see how that's possible. Mine are under 2 pages and it takes me about 3:40 to read them at a normal, understandable rate, and that's without any choking up, crying or coughing. The best guide I've found in answer to your question is YouTube videos. All the examples I've seen on there take AT LEAST 3 minutes per person, and I've not found any of them to be "too boring" or losing my interest. As long as you don't go on a "remember that time..." type tirade, speak from the heart, and make sure there is some sort of actual vow/promise in there, you should be fine.
