For those getting married outdoors *question*

krystle d, on March 12, 2012 at 10:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

If you're getting married outdoors who is going to be your officiant? Is it someone you found through court? Or is that possible? I found out my uncle who is a deacon can't perform the ceremony outdoors and it must be through a church only. I really want my wedding outdoors though so now I'm wondering where I can look to have someone come out. Please help Smiley smile)

I would just do a Google search of officiants in your area..my venue gave me a list of JP's so thats what I used. Good luck!!

Our pastor is doing the ceremony and didn't mention anything about any restrictions doing the ceremony outside of the church. There are officiants on here under vendors, so that may be helpful. Or just find another pastor at a different church. I've heard some on here say that a family member got ordained in order to marry them...I haven't heard of it in my area, but you could look into that also. Good luck!

I agree with Keri - I actually found a couple of officiants who I like through WW - just click on the Vendors menu up top and then select Officiant. You should be able to find one in your area.

A photographer we met with gave us her name. We met with her an immediately connected. I am so excited to have her. She only charges $100 and donates it all to charity. I would ask your vendors ( a lot of them have list of recommended vendors) or Google officiants.

We're having an Anglican priest perform our ceremony. Thank goodness they can perform the ceremony outside.

I would ask around, different religions have different rules. Some of the professional officiants I've seen do a fantastic job, remember they do this for a living. Your venue, photographer or others involved might have a recommendation, they go to a lot of weddings in the area and have probably seen the good and the bad.

I'm having a minister do our ceremony outside. I think it may depend on your state rules and/or church rules..I would check with both

We have a company doing the ceremony that specializes in beach weddings. They have ministers and officiants.

He actually owns the land that our ceremony will take place on. We purchased it as a package including chairs, sound, our choice of officiant and the garden for 3 hours. He also owns a chapel about 10 miles down the road that is included in case of inclement weather.

We're using a county judge, but when I looked online there were quite a few officiants who would come and do it. The only problem is their fees on top of paying for their gas (they weren't close to our ceremony site) was out of our budget. The judge will be $100

You can have your uncle marry you inside a church earlier in the day, then have a blessing/do-over outside!

We are using an officiant who used to be affiliated with a church; but is no longer tied to a church anymore. He is great!

Are you Catholic? My understanding is that Catholic priests can almost never get permission to do a wedding outside of a church, unless it is an emergency situation (e.g., a wedding in a hospital if one of you is confined there). And if you have a nonCatholic wedding without consent of the church, the Catholic church will not recognize it.

Most other denominations allow weddings outside of a church.

I don't know California... check here on WeddingWire and also ask for referrals... I do not refer another vendor unless I feel comfortable having them mentioned in the same breath as me... good luck.

My grandfather will be marring us. He has married everyone in the family. He's Presbyterian and they have no issues doing out doors weddings.

My issue lies with the issue that he requires us to have marriage counseling first, and my FH lives 3 hours away, works 12 hour days 6 days a week.... Not sure when we will find time or a way :-/

And he's from Canada, we need to have a local minister oversee the service... but that's minor considering the first issue....

@2d Bride yup I am Catholic so that's why my uncle can't perform the ceremony outside of the church. He told me that other denominations can allow weddings outside of a church and that's why I thought he could probably do it. And if you get married by a judge will they come out or do you have to go to court? I'm having a backyard wedding so I don't have any vendors to work with to ask for referrals.
