Food sides for the buffet line

Private User, on June 8, 2016 at 3:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

Hello everyone!

I am having an early September wedding, and we are doing all the food ourselves. A friend is roasting a pig on his traeger and we are doing pork sliders, but we are trying to figure out what sides would be easiest and most cost-effective for about 150-200 people. We do have access to a kitchen at our venue, but there is pretty limited space. Any ideas of what would taste good with pork sliders and somewhat cheap and quick to prepare?

Of all things to self cater, you want to self cater pork?

I wont mention about self catered but here are sides that are safe:

    Coleslaw

    Potato Salad

    Mac Salad

    Steamed Veggies

    Mashed Potatoes

    Hire a caterer.

Also, 1 pig is not even close to being enough for 150-200 people.

A caterer could probably answer these questions.

A caterer would definitely be able to help you.

If you aren't hiring a caterer, which you totally should, please answer the following questions:

What is the temperature danger zone for food?

How long can food stay out of a cooling/heating element before it must be thrown away due to the excessive amount of bacteria that has spread?

What is the internal temperature that pork should be cooked to in order to prevent severe illness or death?

True or False: Norovirus is just a fancy word for an awesome fad diet.

Again, if you are absolutely dead-set on potentially killing your guests (not dramatic- it is a definite possibility), please stay away from anything that has dairy or eggs in it. And OVERCOOK your meats/poultry so you don't kill people. For that large number of guests, you may also need a permit or some sort of approval from your health department. Please please please don't run the risks by self catering.............................................

Ummm.. Sides that would taste good with your pork? How about a toilet and nausea medications? Self catering for that many people especially handling pork is a huge concern! What if someone gets sick? Seriously, hire a caterer.

There are a lot of vegetarians, in my family. They would say that nothing would taste good with pork.

A safe food certified caterer would go awesome with your Pig Roast.

I had some great responses yesterday to the self-catering thread, but that was hidden by a butt-hurt bride and I'm not re-hashing.

However, MODS, this is a good reason for not having a hidden button.
