Food for destination wedding

Kiyome, on October 27, 2021 at 8:29 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
Hey everyone! Just trying to gather ideas for menu options for our wedding. We are getting married in Jamaica (hopefully right before the sun sets) and I have no clue what I want to do as far as food goes. We love all cuisines. I love Mediterranean and Indian food. They are probably my favorite. I have never tried Carribean food, but I am sure I would love it as I am not a picky eater. I know I really want a fruit table/display because I LOVE fruit. Haha. Any ideas???

I would check with the venue/caterer before deciding on options. It would be awful to set your heart on one thing and then learn that they can’t fulfill it.

Have you reached out to your venue in Jamaica to inquire about the different menus they offer? Typically Catering companies only offer one type of food. So if you are using the catering company provided through your venue, you will be limited to the type of food they serve. If you are going to hire a caterer outside your venue, then I would start doing research about what is available on the island. I’m sure there would be some pretty incredible Caribbean food! As a guest, I think it would be really special to have at least some foods that incorporate the location.

    It's for about 30-40 people.

We are getting married at a venue that is also a villa, so we can use outside catering. I'm just gathering ideas as to what type of food people like. I'm not making a decision yet

So we found our venue through our wedding planner and it's a beautiful villa overlooking the Carribean. They have a chef that we can hire to cook for my family and friends that will be staying in the villa with us, but I think we are going to use the chef for the couple of days leading up to our wedding and use a caterer for our actual wedding day. We talk to our wedding planner on Monday about different options, but I am just seeing what people like to be served at weddings. I know some people in my family and group of friends that are picky eaters, so I wanted to gather ideas🙂 I think Carribean food sounds good too! I just have never had it before. Haha. Thanks for the tips!!

This sounds so amazing! What a great find. So I personally think for this kind of event and trying to “universally” please guests, it’s fun to do the local/“unusual” food as appetizers and something that guests are more familiar with for entrees. A fruit display during cocktails hour, if you’re having one, sounds amazing!
I love Mediterranean and Indian food too, and would be thrilled with either as a guest, but my husband would hate the latter, so it’s really a matter of knowing your guests.

Cool. It would really depend on what you think the picky eaters will eat. You might have to go more traditional for them so you don't have a lot of food wasted if they don't eat it because it's out of their food realm. It also depends on what they can get on the island and what the caterers say is available. Smiley smile
