Flannel Getting Ready Outfits - What Do You Think?

Tiger Bride, on October 17, 2020 at 11:14 AM Posted in Planning 0 10
So I would kind of like matching outfits for getting ready photos and I liked the idea of silk pajamas shorts, but I don't really want to spend that much more $$ (my BM gifts will probably be around $75-$100 each). I had the idea to ask my girls to bring a plaid flannel shirt and a pair of black yoga pants, kind of like the photo below. I have extra flannels I can let them borrow if they don't have one, but my yogas probably wouldn't fit any of the other girls. So my questions...

- As a BM, would you feel put out by this request?
- My wedding was supposed to be October, which would have been the perfect time of year for this. Now it's in April. It's in a beach town but I am not super fussed about everything having a beachy theme. Would this look weird for an April wedding on the coast?
- Does it look to busy in general? Any other thoughts?

I think those look super cute!! I don't think it's an odd request at all, and I don't think it looks weird or too busy. If I were a bridesmaid, and the bride requested us to bring a plaid shirt and black leggings, I wouldn't think twice about it, I'd be willing to go out and purchase one if I didn't already have one (and they wouldn't seem like they'd be that expensive to purchase). That way, I can add it to my wardrobe after the wedding. Especially since many people already have a plaid shirt and leggings. As long as you're OK with the plaid shirts all being slightly different, I think it's a great idea.

I LOVE the flannel button ups with leggings or sweatpants!!

As a bridesmaid, I personally wouldn't be fazed at bringing my own. In most circles outside of what the wedding videography and other media portrays, it's very common for attendants to wear their own clothes (no coordinated robes etc). Generally though, if you require a certain look or matching, you need to provide everything for the attendants.
I don't think it looks weird for April. Most beaches are still pretty chilly even into summer months. So they may appreciate having the extra warmth.
It doesn't look busy at all.

We did this for my best friend’s wedding. I wish we had a picture because I’d share it with you but she didn’t have getting ready photos taken, so there aren’t any of us in plaid! It was really cute though and an easy way for us to all match without her spending tons of money or us spending extra money. It didn’t look busy at all, but if you’re worried about the busy-ness, maybe ask for photos of what everyone has and make sure they flow together?

I think it would be cute and not expensive if any of them needed to purchase one.

I wouldn’t be put out at all ESPECIALLY if you coupled the request with the fact that you have extras you can bring if anyone doesn’t already own one or have one they want to wear— perfectly acceptable!

I just had my girls wear whatever they were comfortable in, so everyone was completely mismatched and pics are still cute, so I wouldn’t sweat mismatched flannels , and I don’t think season matters much.

Daughter bought matching flannel shirts in her wedding color and her BMs all wore them with their own black leggings and a tank. The getting ready phots were super cute and they were all comfy (and well covered! lol). I think your plan is great!

I wouldn’t be upset if a bride requested black leggings or a flannel by saying to bring it if I already have it. I wouldn’t want to feel like I had to buy something, but a request to bring what I already own is no problem at all!
