Fit and flare/ mermaid style dresses...

Archer_Bride2be, on June 28, 2013 at 12:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

For any of you who have, or have tried on a fit and flare, or mermaid styled dress I have a question for you. Do you find it hard to walk/dance in them? how about sitting down?

I have a fit and flare. No problem sitting what so ever and for me it was easier to walk in than the ballgowns/a-lines I tried on!

Further explanation: It was easier to walk in because I refused to wear a slip. The crinoline was SO HOT that I couldn't deal and without it I kept tripping over the bigger skirts. My fit and flare falls more flat and straight, so even without crinoline I'm not tripping over it.

    I hope that makes sense!

Sooo, I can walk in my dress, but sitting is a bit difficult. I have to hike the dress up about an inch or two to get around my hips so I can sit. For this very reason I plan to buy a second dress for our reception. I still love my dress, but eating and sitting are important to me. Lol!

Very interesting, thanks ladies! I would have thought this style would have constrained your legs a lot more, guess I'll just have to try some on Smiley smile

I had no problem walking or dancing in my mermaid and I had a mermaid slip under it. (My son and I even did a bit of "Cotton Eye Joe" as we approached the aisle)

Sitting was a bit difficult as bending was a bit restricted, but that was from the corset bra I was wearing and not the dress. (it was like wearing a backboard the boning was so stiff, but on the bright side my posture was immaculate)

Hm... I probably should have thought about these things when I tried mine on... I just got excited because I loved it so much and just bought it haha. Oh well, I'll make it work. Glad to hear most of you ladies haven't had much trouble though!

It really depends on the dress. Personally I think the big ball gown is harder to maneuver in as it is even heavier. But if it is the right dress for you, it will feel right!

I agree, it does depend on the dress. I tried one fit and flarw on and everything was super easy. My dress (which isn't in yet)afterwards wasn't as easy, but not impossible. Everything will be fine, but sitting in mine might be the most difficult thing about it. I don't care though. I love my dress, it looks good on...I'll make it work.

This does largely depend on the fabric used to make the dress, as well as how properly-fitted it is, but, in terms of dress designs in general, this shape is one of the most comfortable and easiest to live in.
