First venue blues

Sarah, on August 26, 2019 at 7:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
Hey all! My fiancé and I went to look at our first venue yesterday and while there were aspects I loved, for the most part... I hated it. I know that's totally normal, but I had looked online and was really hoping I could just book it and be done with it. (Wam, bam, thank ya ma'am style).
The venue was on top of a mountain with a gorgeous view behind the arch (incl. the mountain FH proposed on!!!) Unfortunately the venue was VERRRRY rustic and I'm really not trying to go that direction. The Bridal get-ready area was an old cabin that smelled like mildew, and the guys area was literally a storage shed.
If I really really tried I could make the venue look the way I wanted it, but that would require a LOT of rentals, and the venue is already $500 over budget.

PLUS (so you can laugh with me) the owner was showing us around the property and mentioned that after the ceremony the officiant would ask the guest to BRING THEIR CHAIRS INTO THE RECEPTION SPACE. What?????

Okay, rant over. Just tell me to forget about that place and move on.

Sounds like it leaves the doors open for an even better venue to come along!

Don't get discouraged, it took us three visits to find our perfect venue (even ended up being the cheapest Smiley winking )! But I definitely get wanting to nail the venue down asap, I was so on edge while looking for the right venue lol

Just like with men, when you find the one you will know!! We hated our first few venues and instantly fell in love with our wedding venue. Just keep looking and keep an open mind!

Sounds like our house-hunting experience last year. It is so easy to fall in love with something in filter perfect pictures. Hopefully you will find that dream venue soon.

I was also REALLY excited about our first venue (and the beautiful stone walls...) but ended up hating it!! We try to plan as best we can but alas some places aren’t meant to be. You’ll find an awesome place with a great bridal AND grooms suite!!

I agree with PPs here. The first few venues we toured were great in some ways, not so great in others. I was getting very tense thinking we weren't going to ever find the right place. And then it happened. As soon as we stepped onto the grounds of our venue, I got a tingly feeling in the pit of my stomach. Then the tour, and the tinglies only got stronger. By the time we were finished, and had asked all of our questions, I knew it was the right place for us. We told the coordinator we'd sleep on it, and call in the morning with our answer. But as we were driving away, I turned to FH and said "this is where we're getting married" and he said "I know." So, that was it. Like so many things in life, when you know, you know. Try not to get discouraged. You'll find the right place for you.

At least that venue was a very easy no! The whole chair thing gave me secondhand embarrassment. You def dodged a bullet!

Yea, I would honestly leave it alone. I've recently just cancelled my venue. Sucks that we had already put a little bit down (not the full deposit, thank God) but it finally hit me that I didn't want that venue anymore.

I went back to the one that always had my heart from the beginning and I stay wishing I would have just picked it the first time around but it didn't seem doable at that moment. Now that things have changed a little bit, I'm jumping at the chance to get it!

Luckily you didn't put anything down and you're already having doubts so if I were you, I would just leave it and look for something else. Don't go with a venue that you're not unsure of. I hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck!

How has your venue search been since, Sarah? Do you feel you're closer to finding the one?
