First Dance. Let's sympathize with each other....is your FH a terrible dancer?

I love him and it is endearing to me but really. He cannot dance. It is a running joke in our friends circle. Can we get away with just swaying back and forth? Should we take lessons? What did you do?!

His idea of good dancing is having his hands in my bum. I would like one or two pictures without that, so maybe we will practice a bit in the kitchen. Throw a twirl in there or something.

Because of my dress "poof" it was our arms around one another and then around in circles (so middle school modified).

Fh loves to dance and doesn't gaf what he looks like or who is looking. I'm super uncoordinated and dance like it shows. I'm of the "vodka tells me I can dance" variety. Prom sway here

He really doesn't like to dance. Neither one of us is much good, based on the handful to times we've randomly danced in the living room. But I figure, it's one dance on one day, I'm not worried about it! Looking back on weddings I've been to, there's only one first dance that I remember mostly because it was the only choreographed dance I've ever seen done. It was very cute, very much their style, and I loved watching them practice in the parking lot beforehand since the groom was nervous about it! Their photographer got a couple really tender and adorable shots in that practice moment!

I feel pretty good about our sway status then, guess we shouldn't go through the pain of trying to learn anything new...not sure how he would do with that anyways!

Our photographer made us do a fake twirl during e-pics and it almost ended with me in the dirt..

Neither one of us feel really confident as dancers, so we're not busting out with any of those "surprise" dances that people are doing these days. Just the good ol' prom sway.

I did ballet and gymnastics as a kid so I have rhythm... He says he's a good dancer because "he's Latin." He is good. We aren't taking lessons or swaying... We may do a semi salsa dance. For those who can't dance, try salsa.. It's very basic and simple. And remember... No one is judging your dancing skills! People just feel the love. That's why I hate the choreographed stuff too...

I love to dance, although I'm not any good at it. FH...not so much. So for us it's #promswayalltheway ! Our song is a little faster, but we have snuck in some practice in the living room and I feel okay about it. He keeps trying to cop a feel, so I think it will end up being a total giggle fest for me.

Loll FH isn't a bad dancer, we just both don't dance. Therefore we will definitely be taking dance lessons before the wedding 2 totally different classes, primarily for our first dance (more ballroom style) and secondly the ethnic Greek circle dances we have to perfect and will be dancing with our family (it's tradition).

We took dance lessons and did a Rumba to All of me. It was a hit. I was shocked how much people loved it.

My husband isn't the best dancer but we took dance lessons and had a choreographed dance for our first dance. It was expensive but was worth it. I am pretty sure we were ok by the time our wedding came and we looked pretty damn cute even though we messed up. We had fun learning the rumba in the meantime too!

Practice dancing to your first dance song so you feel comfortable. Swaying is completely acceptable, but since you're practicing, maybe add a spin or something. Also, pick a shorter song, or ask your DJ/Musician to shorten it.

We did the middle school sway. But I loved it...DH wouldn't consider taking lessons until a couple weeks before the wedding and by then there wasn't anytime left. Rock the sway and don't worry about it...most people wont be paying much attention after the first 30 seconds of the song and you wont even notice who is watching.

He did surprise me with a spin though...if you could see my face better in this picture you could see the look of shock on it! I'm secretly hoping that the spin came out awesome in photo (and my dress spun a little higher), as you can see a photog behind DH's shoulder...

We will definitely be doing the prom sway. But FH even struggles with that - the concept of rhythm completely evades him and we end up swaying at different tempos. As others have said, I am DEFINITELY not marrying him for his dance moves!

FH isn't a terrible dancer, but his rhythm sometimes can be off, especially after a few drinks! For our first dance, I'm hoping to pick something with a little bit of tempo, but not too difficult for us to sway or side-step to.
