First Dance Before or After Dinner

ShanynL, on June 4, 2017 at 1:14 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 91

Are you having your first dance as a married couple before dinner (after you get introduced), or right after dinner?

It's still early for me and so much of our plans have changed. But I assume we'll be doing it after our introduction and before dinner.

I'm planning mine after dinner and cake cutting - figure we can do our dances while our guests finish their dessert.

I prefer after dinner. The bride and groom have their first dance and then the dance floor is open for guests. It's awkward and choppy to have dance-dinner-dance.

At every wedding I've been to, the first dance was the first thing after dinner, and after that people start dancing. It's the first dance of the night AND your first dance as husband and wife. But I think it's really up to you.

After dinner ... it opens the dance floor. Plus DH could have a few drinks in to loosen up by then (he hates to dance in public)

I vote after as well! Same reason as others, it initiates the dancing after everyone's had their meal.

We are doing ours before dinner right after our introduction. I find the dancing portion kind of boring and I don't want to make our guests sit through our dance, father daughter, FH and his Mom all in a row. I think it'll be less boring if we break it up. The other dances after dinner can open the dance floor.

I have time so I'm not going to decide this till later. But, every wedding I've been to, the bride and groom did their first dances after dinner.

Per our DJ's recommendation, we had our first dance immediately following our grand entrance, followed by a second song (another slow ballad) where other couples were invited to dance with us... this was where we got bombarded by guests trying to say hi & congratulate us. It was great though. The 2nd song was then followed up with an upbeat 3rd song so we could all let loose & dance for a few minutes before making that delicious buffet our bitch.

We're not doing an introduction since we are having a small wedding. We'll be doing the first dance after dinner. Beforehand would be awkward given our space.

Wow I can't believe so many people have never seen it done right after the introduction. I just find it interesting since I've never seen it done after dinner. I get how it opens up the dance floor though. I figure the Hora will serve that purpose for us after dinner.

We did ours right after we got introduced and before dinner. Made the rest of the night go smoother (formalities wise)

We did ours after dinner right before the dance floor opened for general dancing.
