Are you having your first dance as a married couple before dinner (after you get introduced), or right after dinner?

FH wants to do it all after dinner (dances, cake cut). I wanted to get it out of the way while everyone is already focused. Ah well. So after dinner it is.

This seems to be heavily dependent on your region and local norms. In my area of the Midwest, speeches and spotlight dances always happen when the couple and BP have finished eating but the guests are still enjoying their meals because they started a bit later (plated dinner weddings are also uncommon in my area). It also seems like cocktail hours are a little less decadent here with just passed apps, charcuterie, fresh vegetables, etc. instead of heavy stations like pasta. I would say that unless you're absolutely sure that your guests won't be hungry because of a really heavy cocktail hour, dances after dinner would be ideal. No one wants to sit through dances or speeches while hangry.

We are doing it right after being introduced. Mother son & father daughter will be after dinner. There will be appetizers & drinks at cocktail hour so I'm not worried about them being hungry

After we get introduced... Everyone is still right there from the introductions and no one will feel rushed eating their dinners.

I think it really depends on how formal your dinner service is. If you think people will finish earlier than others and want to start dancing, doing your first dance earlier might be nice.

We're doing it right after introductions, before dinner. Mostly to give some time between heavy cocktail hour and dinner.

I agree I want to get all dances over with before dinner so that I don't have nerves. If I'm nervous I won't be able to eat! We're not spending $$$ so everyone else can enjoy their meals and not us. Personal preference!
