Fired my dj - my advice to you

Future Mrs. Cwik, on January 6, 2020 at 4:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
My DJ made us feel so uncomfortable. She would miss phone calls and go a week or more without responding to us. We finally said enough was enough and though we’ll lose our deposit, we told her we weren’t moving forward.

A weight has been lifted! Our deposit was not small so it was very frustrating, but it was so worth it. If one of your vendors or someone is making you feel uncomfortable when it comes to your wedding, TELL THEM. Don’t wait. We waited to tell her because we were giving her the benefit of the doubt, and we are so stupid for doing that. We should have never hired her because she made us feel a little weird - we loved her style so much, though, so we went with it.
Just a word of advice. If you’re unsure, get sure. This is a huge day in your life, so make sure it feels right!

I’m sorry you had to deal with this but you are right....it’s a huge day and you should feel good about all of your vendors. I was on the fence with one of mine and it ended up not going well. I should have gone with my gut feel and fired him from the beginning and gotten someone else. This is good advice.

Thanks Cyndy! Honestly, I’m salty about losing deposit money but it is so worth the peace of mind. This girl can post selfies all over Instagram but not check her email for weeks on end...and she’s a business owner. Really infuriated me!

Thank you! Thinking of doing this as well but waiting to secure a new DJ before we fire our other one.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

That’s what we did! You aren’t in the Charlotte, NC area are you? We got a great one for the second go around!

This is such good advice. I had some concerns about our florist when I first started talking to her, but my brother was using her for his wedding and my mom told me how amazing she was so I listened to my mom. My husband didn't like her either and I so wish I would have listened to my husband. By the time I wanted to fire her it was about 2 months until my wedding and we were concerned that we would never find a replacement. I wish I had listened to original feelings and my husband's. She messed up a ton of stuff and I highly regret having her as our florist.

    Not Charlotte, I'm in Tampa!

Read some bad reviews recently on the DJ I hired saying he ruined their wedding day. Not taking any chances on that!

It’s so hard because you want to believe that people don’t suck, then they do. I’m sorry that happened!!

It really is hard. She had really great reviews and beautiful photos so I still don't understand what happened. I based one of my bouquets on a previous bouquet she had made, but it looked absolutely nothing like it. While it sucks losing money at least you know you won't have to deal with regretting your decision to keep her on as your DJ.

This comes at a perfect time! I just posted about being iffy hiring my friend as a DJ and going with a professional, and you are right. I don’t want to feel on the fence about anyone we hire. Sucks you lost your deposit - is there nothing in there that protects you due to her lack of response?

Not really. But honestly it’s okay - I would rather lose the deposit and feel this good than hang on for a few hundred bucks.

Hiring friends is super hard, It’ll probably be better for your friendship in the long run if you go with a pro!
