Fiesta themed wedding ideas!

CL, on February 28, 2017 at 12:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 40

Howdy everyone, I just got engaged. Whoop whoop! I am having a fiesta themed wedding... Pinterest has some cute ideas: churros, piñatas, taco bar, etc. I am going to go cheap on the venue, and decor (I feel like fiesta decor can be real affordable), and I want to put most money towards alcohol and music (who doesn't love that combo??) 2 questions:

1. What ideas do you have for fiesta themed weddings

2. Have you been to a minimally decorated wedding that had great food and dancing, and said "wow, their invites sucked, and they didn't have enough flowers at the reception"?

(Trying to adjust priorities)

P.S. I'm 26, and my FH is 29. We both have good jobs, just trying to start our marriage without credit card bills from our wedding.

Thank you!

I'm not sure what advice I can give but I just want to say to be careful with the whole theme thing because it can easily turn into something that looks like a kids party and also you have 3 stars..... change your avatar

Okay anybody else? Answering one of the two clearly posted questions would be great. I will change my avatar when I want. Thank you!

    Attitude won't get you answers.

Keep the theme light, otherwise it can look cheesy.

If there is good food and plenty of booze, no one will care about the decor

    What's with the attitude?

I'd go with as little "fiesta" decor as possible. Otherwise it'll look like a child's birthday party.

No one will care what your invites look like. Decor is the last thing to spend a ton of money on. Focus on the guest experience- food, alcohol, and DJ.

And change your avatar Smiley smile

Mrs. Fall Bride, well I don't plan on going crazy with the theme. And I hadn't thought about a sangria, but yes to the margarita... the planning is very fresh, so a lot is up in the air!

Catrina, don't get all huffy and puffy. Consider it an initiation to get into the club. Change your avatar. If you're into fiestas, google fiesta images and pick one, okay? Is that so offensive? We won't recognize you if you're a double ring, and if that's okay with you, then accept the feedback. Fair enough?'

Here's my trifecta: good drinks, good food, and good entertainment. That's really all you need. Believe me. If you can afford more, go for it, but don't put it on a credit card or plan on cash gifts to get you out of what you are contractually committed to. Remember, the trifecta.

Mrs. Fall bride, I wasn't referring to your comment. I liked your opinion.

As everyone said above be careful with going overboard on the theme. But I'll try and see what I can provide as for ideas/your questions.

    1. Maybe a signature drink as said above, a fun cake, a candy bar that includes a piñata as decor that's outright 'fiesta' but lots of white flowers, pops of natural green and some pretty jewel tones for bridesmaids/decor and you could get a really classy spin on your theme!!

    2. I definitely enjoy fun or different invites!!! They don't have to be super expensive, especially with places like Etsy providing DIY printable invited for $10-25 plus printing. I kinda judge super boring invites if I think they don't showcase the couple's personality or theme well! And I think the right statement decor can make up for less flowers or decorations!

My my my.... miss attitude over here lol geez

ETA: I have absolutely no ideas on a fiesta themed wedding because it sounds like it can go cheesy party real quick and for your 2nd question.... have a properly hosted event and you won't have any problems, people will enjoy themselves

Thanks guys! Although I do agree that I was a little "huffy puffy" I am not deleting my comment because all the other comments won't make sense after lol... it's late and I just felt like talking about weddings and got tired of Pinterest. I'll try to change my avatar when I am using my desktop. Trust me I am nice, and don't have a bad attitude. (This was my first post)

    1. I don't have any ideas because themes generally remind me of a kid's birthday, not a wedding.

    2. As long as the food and drinks are plentiful, delicious and free, with good music and plenty of room to dance, I don't remember anything else. Invitations won't be remembered, nor will flowers (or a lack thereof).

    3. Since you decided to cop an attitude, here is some unsolicited advice: don't expect overly helpful answers. You were asked to change your avatar to A) help us get to know you, and B) to distinguish you from all of the other users who can't be bothered to upload an avatar or contact the mods to do it for you. That implies that you are here for you, not to be a contributing member of the community, which makes many folks here not want to help you. If you don't want to upload one, no one can force you to, but no one has to help you, either.

    1. I like the signature drink ideas. My only recommendation is to keep the theme light. I feel like this particular theme could come across as offensive (racist) if you overdo it.

    2. No. I don't remember the decor at any of the weddings I've ever been to

I was going to say the same thing as @Holly. Wanting tacos and churros is fine but having piñatas and other decor that screams "stereotypical Mexican (child's birthday) party" is pushing it. If you're Latinx and doing it for a specific cultural reason, that's one thing but if you're not and you're doing these things just because you like it/think it's cute, that's another.

Lol well the Piñata idea was one I saw on Pinterest. You put a cute piñata at the front table and guests write a message on a card and place it in the pinata... and you break the pinata open in a year.

Hey look, an avatar! I think it's funny that you're having a party themed party.

I love themed weddings when done well. Go easy and don't be offensive.

Lol these comments are so funny. I'm actually half Mexican and half Nicaraguan, so it's not like I'm just some person poking fun at Mexican culture and trying to be racist. I just really want my wedding to be fun!

We have seen it before. So. Many. Times. That is why we tell you not to be offensive. You would be shocked.

Your wedding will be fun if you have good food, booze, and music.
