Fiesta themed wedding ideas!

Howdy everyone, I just got engaged. Whoop whoop! I am having a fiesta themed wedding... Howdy everyone, I just got engaged. Whoop whoop! I am having a fiesta themed wedding... Pinterest has some cute ideas: churros, piñatas, taco bar, etc. I am going to go cheap on the venue, and decor (I feel like fiesta decor can be real affordable), and I want to put most money towards alcohol and music (who doesn't love that combo??) 2 questions:

1. What ideas do you have for fiesta themed weddings

2. Have you been to a minimally decorated wedding that had great food and dancing, and said "wow, their invites sucked, and they didn't have enough flowers at the reception"?

(Trying to adjust priorities)

P.S. I'm 26, and my FH is 29. We both have good jobs, just trying to start our marriage without credit card bills from our wedding.

Thank you!

    1. How about a guacamole bar? Your caterer sets up basic guac and optional mix-ins like diced peppers, onions, bacon bits, etc, with pita chips, tortilla chips, a variety of salsas, etc. And people can mix their own dip!

    2. That would never happen in my world. Feed me, water me and let me dance and I don't give a shit if you invited me with construction paper and glitter.

    OP is a little sassafras.

I'll be the UO here. Personally, I can't imagine a "fiesta wedding" that doesn't look cheap and overdone.

Find a color palette you love. Decorate off of that. If you have good food, free booze, and a bomb DJ, no one will look at the decor anyway. Have Mexican food if you want it, but there's no way I can imagine a piñata at a wedding that wouldn't make me think 10 year old birthday party.

But, what do I know. I just hosted an amazing wedding that didn't look any kind of cheap or overdone.

Agreed with the signature drink idea...margaritas! Also bright "fiesta" colors are fun for centerpieces, flowers, bouquets. I saw some centerpieces on Pinterest with a Mexican blanket runner, succulents, and cacti. Was surprised how cute it actually was! Maracas on each seat that say "make some noise at the kiss!" are cute too. I would do little touches here and there to not make it too "themey". We're thinking about getting married in Baja (and my FH is part Mexican) so I've been doing research on weddings with a little Mexican fiesta flare. Good luck!! Smiley smile

The idea of a fiesta themed wedding sounds really cheap looking to me. I just think of a child's birthday party and not a wedding.

So I like the idea of a fiesta theme but maybe stay away from things that scream kids bday party. Like maybe your colors could be red with accents of orange and yellow. So your centerpieces could be Flowers in those colors but nothing specifically fiesta? Does that make sense?

    Signature drinks margaritas, coronas, sangria?

Churros is a fun dessert option. Mini tacos, tacquitos, quesadillas (pick one of them?) for a passed appetizer?

You want a party themed party?

    I don't understand.

Pick a color palette- go for bright and cheerful with primary colors. To much more and you're going to look really cheesey.

People have fun with food and booze- when you try to hard to MAKE it fun- it just looks tacky and that you tried to hard.

This also seems to me like a toddler's birthday.

I would skip a pinata, way too childish IMO. I think you could totally roll with the fiesta theme in your food and drinks. Do maybe a taco/burrito bar, taquitos, quesadillas, etc. And do white and red sangria and maybe some flavored margaritas.

Also, if you had a gun to my head right now I couldn't tell you what flowers looked like at any wedding I've ever been to or been a bridesmaid in.

I don't have any ideas for a fiesta-themed wedding. The only thoughts I have had at/around weddings are "The bride and groom look so happy," "This food is fantastic/terrible/super boring," "This bar is awesome/non-existent," and "The DJ is so fun/making me want to go home." I don't remember a single centerpiece, invitation, or decoration of any kind.

I like the idea of churros and tacos with the above mentioned signature drinks and maybe a candy bar with a pinata. I wouldn't do much more than that for a theme though. For centerpieces, candles and vases are relatively in expensive. Same with brightly colored daisies or mums. I think that would fit well with your concept. Also, i must be an outlier but I do remembee decorations at the few weddings I've been to. I like those details, so I tend to pay attention. For invites I don't really mind if their simple especially learning how dang expensive they are planning my own wedding.

I love the pinata idea! It's better then the overdone letters to each other in a box with wine thing and it's something fun to do on your anniversary. I found some cute papel picado that's wedding themed on etsy that you could use. Also the churro idea rocks , churros are the best.

Did you want to do colorful fiesta, or something more demure - like an all white, lacy look?

I am picturing the lacy paper banners overhead with string lights.

The Ombre look is also popular if you want something colorful:

You definitely need Mexican food and Mexican alcohol (corona, tequila etc). I'm not sure if Sangria is technically Mexican or Spanish. But it all kind of blends together well. I'd stay away from piñatas only because they scream birthday party. Succulents may be a nice little detail to incorporate somewhere. The invites can be simple but I think pretty bright flowers are a must even if it's your only decor element.

**I'm Mexican so any party I throw is a "fiesta". Lol

I think fiesta decor can look very cheap and more like a theme party, not a wedding. Instead of pinatas and cheap decor, I would keep it simple by incorporating the bright colors into floral arrangements. I do think you can have a lot of fun with the catering options though...fajitas, taco bar, guac/salsa/queso bar, churros, margaritas, sangria, YUM.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I'm glad I posted this because I got some pretty good tips. Sticking to the firsta theme... even though people have some pretty harsh thoughts on it lol.. it's okay though. Even my mom wasn't on board in the beginning but she came around. First she said it was "cheap and tacky" but I showed her pics and now she likes it.
